The Oscars 2012

Post by bradavon »

The full list of nominees: http://oscar.go.com/nominees

For me (of the ones I've seen):

* Best Picture: The Artist but because Tree of Life was rubbish
* Best Director: The Artist. It has to be! I'll be totally pissed off if Tree of Life wins, Mallick is a good director but with Tree of Life he went so overboard.
* Best Actor: Gary Oldman, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
* Best Actress: I've not seen any of them this year
* Best Supporting Actor: I've not seen any of them this year
* Best Supporting Actress: Bérénice Bejo. She was totally wonderful.
* Best Foreign Language Film: I've not seen any of them this year

What about yours? (not just the awards I choice to pick out)

Only nominated film I've seen is Bridesmaids and I wasn't a fan.

Oscars are a joke. I only watch when Steve Martin is hosting, because then the joke is funnier.

Billy Crystal is this year's host.

I do remember Steve Martin being hilarious when I saw him present about 10 years ago.

You're not expecting accuracy from a Hollywood awards show are you Hung? I still like it though. I've only watched it outright once (all 4 hours of it!), never again. It's such a snoozefest.

I don't have Sky Movies so haven't seen the ceremony for many years.

The BBC used to have it.

Special effects or sound, they may be good, but the fact that that piece of shit has a nomination and Melancholia doesn't is simply ridiculous, no wonder I never bother with awards.

No, but the Oscars is silly even by their own standards.

I watched it on The BBC. Freeview is enough for me.

I havent seen Melancholia but Transformers 3 does not deserve any awards. Even The Matrix which was a bit cerebral (for a blockbuster) only won effects awards. But if a film someone likes wins....

If the effects are great, it deserves to be nominated for such.

Melancholia is more pretentious shite. If Brad watches it he will hail it a masterpiece.the reality is it's shit.

No, the reality is that you don't like it - you seem to be lacking in objectivity.

Can't say I'm desperate to see any of the nominees, really.

I'll probably rent Midnight in Paris because I like Woody Allen, and The Artist because my Dad is interested, but the rest I'll wait for TV if I'm bothered.

Yeah my very valid point was, if that piece of shit has been nominated, the excellent film that is Melancholia should have too.

Are you saying Melancholia has better special effects than Transformers 3?

You've got a right hard on for that word lately. Not every film that has a message is pretentious. Not that I've seen it. To say The Artist is pretentious is a joke, it takes the mick out of itself.
HungFist wrote:Are you saying Melancholia has better special effects than Transformers 3?
:D . If Gas isn't, his pointless is illogical or not to be taken literally. I've only seen Transformers. I enjoyed as it brought back memories of playing with them as a kid but one film's enough to do that. I've got no interest in seeing the sequels.

Especially since it's a film about depression, made by a man who's suffered from depression his whole life - I don't see the pretence.
