I really can't believe this. I remember first seeing this film in my first college several years back and researching all of the different variations, and how (at the time) the Kino DVD was the best and most proper cut, and that well over an hour of footage had been "lost". That being said, I wasn't about to hold my breath for this footage to appear. I mean, lost footage from an 80 year old movie? I expected nothing but celluloid ashes. But, they found it intact? And randomly in Buenos Aries? How do these reels end up in all these places? Buenos Aries for Metropolis, a "chicken coop" for the Game of Death dailies footage (still confused about that), and some vault in the UK for the Superman II Donner footage. Doesn't anyone keep track of film materials anymore?
Well, if an 80 year old film can be found uncut... then where the hell is the uncut print of The Big Boss?

Surley Grim read some HD stuff?
If not, well as long as the tech guys know what they are doing Grim, they can make almost anything look better (sometimes much better), even old films.
There are a few very old films on HD at the moment, and frankly some look pretty amazing from what I have seen. If they invest some cash into the HD stuff, damn they can be made to look better than even recent films.

According to a post on Imports Forum the new footage/cut WILL be on the Kino BD, and there will also be a DVD released on the same day as the BD.

We've just heard back from our friends over at Kino International. The good news is that they have officially confirmed that the newly-discovered footage from Fritz Lang's original version of Metropolis (which we mentioned yesterday) WILL be a part of the forthcoming special edition Blu-ray Disc release in 2009. What's more, the new special edition will be released on standard DVD format as well on the same day. Watch for more details on this sure-to-be-amazing release in the weeks and months ahead. We think that's just about the best news we could close out the week with, don't you?
So with that, enjoy the weekend!
