Strangely enough, on the very day I logged onto hkflix.com to buy the Joy Sales disc, they had the DD listed for pre-order.

Cheers Ricky. Is it any good? I can't say I've really heard of it before.

So far only SPL of the DD line up has interested me and that I need to see my HK DVD first.

And yes, it's amazing

And Tai Chi Master? Those two interest me more than The Killer. It's a decent film but definitely overrated.

Wow... I was sure you were gonna give me a 'yawnnnnnn' comment again ... :D

Yeah, Tai Chi Master would be cool as well, although I feel it's nowhere near as great as Fist of Legend. TCMaster starts out GREAT, but quickly becomes wire-infested mediocre OTT stuff. Sadly.

Do DD have the rights to Burning Paradise btw? That's a very underrated classic. Best portrayal of Fong Sai Yuk yet. I wish it would get a good DVD release.

There's a R4 DVD of Burning Paradise, lord knows about the quality. I recall asking on an Aussie forum and no one could give me a clear answer.

I'd like to see it, as it's a "lost gem" in Ringo Lam's filmography.

Someone put out a non-shit DVD of the full cut of Ashes of Time too please.

Amen to that, brother. I just watched Ashes of Time on my Sired VHS 2 nights ago. Just an awesome flick, but man, it deserves a GREAT transfer.

I read that WKW is doing a re-cut of Ashes of Time. Which means I will have to go hunt down WKW and shoot him in the face. Ashes of Time is perfect as it is. Just make sure we'll get it on a good quality DVD and go make a good new movie! Or a Leslie Cheung documentary! Or that rumoured Yip Man Bio-pic.

When will Days of Being Wild get a good DVD release? Or Happy Together? Sigh...
Being a WKW/Leslie Cheung fan sure sucks.

Don't you have the R1 SE of Happy Together? That looks great, aside from being interlaced and 8 seconds near the beginning that was supposed to colour was accidently processed as B&W.

It's probable that Warners have the American rights to Burning Paradise.

It's a very cool film and it sucks that the only DVD is letterboxed and average quality.

I'd love a Remastered DVD but I'd be interested in a new (Director approved) cut too. AOT is definitely confusing in it's current form, then that could easily be because the subs suck so much.
Yi-Long wrote:and go make a good new movie!
ITMFL and 2046 are both excellent.
Yi-Long wrote:When will Days of Being Wild get a good DVD release? Or Happy Together? Sigh...
They already have decent releases. In the case of DOBW it's even had a HD Remaster (along with ATGB) but doesn't especially count as they didn't include English subs.

Regardless the R1 DVDs are perfectly fine, nothing special but they're good enough for me.

A little update on The Killer:

http://www.davisdvd.com/news/dvd.html

Dragon Dynasty and Genius Entertainment will release John Woo's classic The Killer on November 6th. This new two-disc set will feature a remastered anamorphic widescreen transfer with Cantonese and English Dolby Digital Surround tracks (along with optional English subtitles). Extras will include an audio commentary with Terence Chang and John Woo, a collection of deleted scenes, retrospective featurettes and trailers. Stay tuned for finalized details soon. Retail is $24.99.

That's some big up to DD for managing to get Woo back to do a commentary. I remember HKL tried for their BITH: PE but he wasn't interested.

Won't that be 3 commentaries he's now recorded for The Killer? Assuming they've not managed to get the Criterion commentary which I hear is pretty poor. It too has Woo and Chang.

It would be cool if they put the Extended Cut on Disc 2 like the French DVD but I know that won't happen.

It wasnt anamorphic I believe, and I think there was also something wrong with the audio OR subtitles, which jumped from Canto to german (audio), or from Dutch to german (subs). Anyway, there was SOMETHING wrong with it, otherwise I would have bought it ;)

That DVD was the original CAT III version rather than the HK Theatrical version AFAIK.
It had English subs :?
