The Spidey comics ARE bright, clean, 'glossy', etc.
Spidey's manhattan is usually clean, green and bright.
Unlike Batman, who mostly operates at night, Spider-man operates both day and night, and there's always (at least there used to be) alot of humor in Spidey and his city.

I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

Comics, smomics. I don't give a monkeys. The feel and tone in Spider-man 1 and 2 is bollocks. I've never read the comics but the cartoon show is darker than the films
. That's not say they have to be dark. Superman works fine with it's lighter tone.
Being set in daytime is irrelevant. Superman is set partly during day time. They're so bright you need sunglasses
. I just really dislike the way they shot them. It ruins any potential they had. I had no issues with Kirsten Dunst though.
Give me Superman Returns any day, it's far better made in every way.

I worked that outgrim_tales wrote:Yes you did, Yi said the films had a great feel, close to the comics and you said "Agreed, the feel of them is completely wrong"

Spider-Man was pretty good, I thought, better than Superman Returns. Actually better than ANY of the Superman movies to date. Spidey 2, despite the raves, I wasn't so passionate about. I never bothered with 3, because even the people who loved 1 & 2, thought it was pants.
The original Superman series was hammy, aritifical, and overblown. I liked Chris Reeve, Hackman is always a class act, but I just never responded to these bloated, often boring would-be epics. By the time they roped in Richard Pryor it was game over, man. I have a special place in my heart for Cannon Films, but Cannon is Chuck Norris with a rocket launcher NOT Superman and nukes.
I saw the first X-Men movie. It was OK, but didn't compel me to watch the remainder.

Films are all about opinions but no sane, normal person would believe Superman Returns was superior to Spidey 1 & 2. Fuck Spidey 3 pisses on Superman Returns !Brandon Routh was a piss, piss poor Clark Kent/Superman (has he acted since) Bradavon has posted knowing he'd invoke everyone disagreeing with him, well.he succeeded

Pretty much everyone agrees X2 is significantly better. Singer has said there was lots more he wanted to do with X-Men but the budget was to low to achieve it.Markgway wrote:I saw the first X-Men movie. It was OK, but didn't compel me to watch the remainder.
You should give it a go. You maybe surprised. I thought it was ace. For me The Dark Knight is the best Superhero film ever made but Superman 2 (Theatrical Cut. I've not seen the Donner Cut) andX2 are excellent too. I even like the Original Batman movie.
Since when was I sane?saltysam wrote:Films are all about opinions but no sane, normal person would believe Superman Returns was superior to Spidey 1 & 2.

True but I also posted giving my sincere opinion, as others did.saltysam wrote:Bradavon has posted knowing he'd invoke everyone disagreeing with him, well.he succeeded
No problem, why presume I have one? It was just pretty pointless that's all.saltysam wrote:because i wanted to.your problem is ?

1990: The Bronx Warriors (Italy, 1982) – 2,5/5
This Enzo G. Castellari film is basically a reversed version Escape From New York in The Warrors mode. The law enforcement has abandoned Bronx, turning the area into a war zone ruled by various gangs. The high class people live in Manhattan. When an arms company leader’s daughter runs from her rich father and finds a new home from Bronx, they send a man to rescue, Hammer (Vic Morrow). Except that in this film Hammer is the representative of evil which is the sivilization. The noble people live in Bronx... well, actually it’s just main character Trash (Mark Gregory) and his gang, plus the King of Bronx, The Ogre (Fred Williamson), that are somewhat noble, the rest of the gangs are bastards.
1990: Bronx Warriors is an entertaining gang and biker flick (but not post apocalypse, as sometimes believed). After the effective first half it loses some of its drive when it starts resebling Walter Hill’s The Warriors too closely. A bit higher budget wouldn’t have hurt either, now we’re left without high scale action scenes. But the attitude is right, no doubt about it. Mark Gregory is okay in the lead role but hardly charismatic. He has obvious problems with walking like an ordinary person, not to mention reacting believably to his own lines (apparently the real New York scenes were shot with sync sound, in English, a language he couldn’t understand). Therefore it’s in the supporting parts where the more memorable performances are made (Williamson and Morrow especially).

Universal Soldier - The Return
No flab, just balls-to-the-wall action. Pity they couldn't have spent some of the budget on a decent story. It's easier to forgive B-pictures such flaws as mediocre acting and silly dialogue, but studio movies that cost a bundle (enough to afford dozens of spectacular explosions) should do better. Van Damme plays it tongue-in-cheek, but his acting seems to have regressed here. I can't deny it's fun, and NEVER boring, but the lack of ambition is a disappointment. And that metal score started to get on my jubblies...

2019: After the Fall of New York (Italy/France, 1983) – 3/5
2019. A nuclear war has turned New York into ruins. The evil Euraks rule the streets and hunt ”ordinary people”, which of many have mutated as a result of radiation. But the word is that the last fertile woman on earth is in New York. Lone warrior Parsifal (Michael Sopkiw) is given a mission to bring her back and save the mankind. Sergio Martino's film borrows a lot from other genre classics but doesn’t feel like a direct copy of anything. Considering the limitations of the budget it looks – and sounds, thanks to the stylish score – pretty good. The content is well described in the character names; Bronx, Shorty, Rat Eater King, Flamethrower Mercenary... The Big Ape was maybe a bit too much but can be forgiven as we’ve also got evil nazi bitc... ah, I’m sorry, I mean evil Eurak bitch in black. No, this is not 2001 – A Space Odyssey. This is cinema.

What's your rating? I thought it was really bad TBH. Oh and Goldberg's character, christ.Markgway wrote:Universal Soldier - The Return
Halloween BD - 3/5
Nicely crafted, effective little horror film. Carpenter has definitely made better films though.
The transfer had been DNR'd to hell though.
Spider-Man 3 BD - 3/5
This disc came free with my Region A PS3.
Entertaining popcorn flick, never a dull moment.
The narrative is bloated and all over the place, but it's perfectly coherent. Really they shouldn't have shoehorned Venom into the film. Definitely not as bad as everyone said it was though.
The transfer looked nice, had good detail and was film-like. It had more grain than Halloween!

Lol, yeah, Bill Goldberg is to acting what Uma Thurman is to martial arts. The only defence I can muster is that he was at least supposed to be funny. As a film it was bad in certain ways, but I was sorta entertained. It was like a big budget version of an 80s B-movie. None of the cash went on a script, though. Rating? If I'm being tough it's probably no more than a ** (acting, dialogue, etc) but for dumb late-night entertainment value I can generously offer a *** I mean, they did manage to work in a gratuitous brawl in a nudie bar(!)EvaUnit02 wrote:What's your rating? I think it's because most people were expecting an epic; the trailer made the film look like it was going to be amazing if I recall. I was very disappointed when I saw it at the cinema, but on Blu-ray it fares a bit better due to my low expectations haha.EvaUnit02 wrote:Definitely not as bad as everyone said it was though.

Oh right, I remember that part. They needed internet access and the first place that came to mind was a strip club!Markgway wrote: I mean, they did manage to work in a gratuitous brawl in a nudie bar(!)
