Depends on the context.

Porn is boring. Why? Because sex is only fun if you're involved.

Who wants to watch people better looking that you getting it on?

This goes equally for softcore stuff like Sex & Zen.

But if it's in the context of a good story or serves a purpose to the plot (ie. Basic Instinct - which has a lot of sex but isn't dull) then that's fine.

Maybe this is what Hung means??

It's certainly very watchable, and in the hands of a lesser director would probably be the sort of movie Channel 5 used to show late at night

Michael Douglas's performance is very good. It's a very good movie IMO

Of course the film is erotic.

That really depends on your definition of erotic, which we've been here before. There's nothing erotic in stagnant sex, as portrayed in Basic Instinct. Porn isn't erotic in the slightest, titillating yes but erotic no.

Too many confuse sex and/or porn for eroticism, when they're entirely different things. Of course eroticism can include all the above but I've yet to see any porn that is anything more than titillating.

Not the best example but this photo of Marilyn Monroe is far more erotic than anything in Basic Instinct:

I did say it wasn't the best example. I don't really find Marilyn Monroe sexy either but I couldn't find a better example of illustrating what erotic actually means. If you still don't get it, I give up.

Some of the Wong Kar Wai movies ooze that 'erotic' vibe, I guess.

Personally, I don't give a shit what's technically what. Is Basic Instinct 'erotic'!? It's an 'erotic thriller', but the erotic parts are probably the parts that don't have the humping in them. Anyway, as a teen I liked the movie as wank-material, but it's absolutely nothing more than that.

In The Mood for Live is incredibly erotic. Far more than the in-your-face Basic Instinct ever could dream of being.
