Well, at least modern digipacks aren't as bulky as they were back in the day (from my observations). One modern 2-disc = size of 1 keepcase.

At least the price ain't inflated by the stupid packaging, $19.98 RRP = cheap online.

Agreed. Some digi-packs are stupidly big. The Korean Alexander 2 Disc Digi-pack is the size of a house (okay it's easily as big as most 4 disc digi-packs).

Ben Hur 4 Disc Digi-pack is stupidly big too.

It's official, the new transfer IS remastered and actually has good colours and the missing dialogue has been restored.

R1 15th AE vs. R1 10th AE

R1 15th AE vs. R2UK SE
Hi - well had a brief review.

1. "I think he just passed out" - is BACK IN
2. "I havent been looking" is mumbled as before
3. "Shut the **** up" is BACK IN
4. The picture looks much better. Blacs are black again ! That was my biggest bug-
bear
The tasty sauce

Good to hear.

The UK R2 looks the best though, no?

That said despite still being way to dark it's clearly much sharper.

The UK R2 SE was always better than the R1 SE anyway IMO (at the very least it wasn't dark heaven). I'm now not sure whether to upgrade the UK R2 is fine for me but if the R1 SE really does look loads better, it's a DVD-9 for starters.

I'm not as interested to upgrade this one like I did Scarface but then I'm not upgrading The Vengeance Trilogy so maybe.

Has anyone found a second opinion comparing the R1 SE with UK R2 SE? The previous R1 SE is shit anyway so it's almost a given it will look better.

It doesn't actually say if it's the UK Original or UK SE???

Fuck the original R2, this looks pretty damn good and actually has extras.

All I have is a rip of the R4 SE which looks like shit compared to this, so I'm upgrading for sure.

I'm still not sure which version of Scarface I want, the R1 2003 SE for the original mix or the R1 2006 PE for the remix. I might end up just buying both.

True, but honestly it looks too shit to be anything but the SE.

Bullshit, it works fine. I just use the IP address cuz TheDVDF's/DVDtimes DNS server sucks and keeps directing me to dead links.

If as near to original as possible is important to you I'd definitely get the UK R2 or R4 one disc:

* The Making of is better laid out
* It has Dolby Digital 4.0 (Dolby Surround but Discrete instead of Matrix)
* It looks virtually identical to the 2003 SE

It's not a bad effort for a DVD of it's age. I'm hoping/suspect the 2006 DVD will have been remastered.
True, but honestly it looks too shit to be anything but the SE.
Even so it looks better than the NEW R1 SE going by that German site.

The Original R1 and R1 SE DVDs mean nothing to me. I want to see a second opinion/comparison between the NEW R1 SE and UK R2 SE. I don't reckon the German site is correct.

That's why I said messed up. You're alone with your DNS issues. They always work 100% of the time for me and everyone else I believe.

Still think the old R2 looks better.

The new issue is too red and too dark.

That's not a proper comparison, we'll know for sure once we done one ourselves.

Exactly or from the likes of DVD Times/DVD Talk.

As I own the UK not Aussie I'm not upgrading until I know it actually does look loads better. A comparison to the R1 means very little.

I recieved the new R1 release today and can easily match grabs from the R2/R4 releases should anyone decide to make some.

There's already a comp thread somewhere in the forum...

EDIT: I've found the thread and bumped it up.

Ok i'll match to those, but IMO they're poorly chosen grabs as almost all of them are interior shots and I have the sneaky suspicion that the UK DVD has had the brightness boosted considerably in interior scenes.

Please therefore do both:

1. The caps already provided
2. Plus a few more.

Someone needs to fix the R4 caps first! I will if no one can be bothered.
