Dumbo (1941) - 5/5

A Disney classic. I loved it.
The Pink Elephants sequence is still disturbing, and is striking that almost every character in the film is an asshole towards poor Dumbo, apart from Timothy Mouse, his mum (obviously) and the crows.
The Baby Mine scene is so sad

Jackass - The Movie - 1,5/5
Crap. Hated the Japan stuff.

Frantic - 4/5
Still excellent. Makes most other thrillers look really childish.

The problem with the japan parts was that I didn't want those idiots anywhere near japan. Watching them in japan was kinda like watching a puppy being kicked.

The problem with most other stuff was that I felt embarrased for those idiots. I hate that.

The soundtrack was a real pain.

But I didn laugh a couple of times. The golf scenes were pretty funny.

hey,

Ninja Commandments 3/5

Jospeh Lai trying to make an arthouse statement when mixing his ninjer stuff with a Taiwanese, EXTREMELY DISTRESSING melodrama starring Elsa Yeung and O Chun Hung. Horribly dubbed, the tragedy of the couple are intercut with the telling of the ninja commandments you can't break. Bizarre mix, all while Richard Harrisson and ninjers in brightly colored suits duke it out.

Neither of the above works of course but is a lot of fun, down there in the C-grade parts of cinema.

I'm sorry but anyone who watches a film called JACKASS deserves what they get.

A film made by morons for morons.

It's like watching a film called I LOVE TO RAPE and then complaining about it containing rape.

Once Upon A Time in America: Part 1 - 4/5

Very good so far, but jeez it's long and a slow burner. The acting is very good, and the use of the pan-pipes through the film, though it didnt seem like Morricone's best music to me. I was confused by the way the film jumps in time at first - near the beginning of the film, The Beatles's Yesterday is present on the soundtrack.

Ultraviolet 1/5

What a pile of poo this was. Remember the trailer a few years ago, or whenever it was it came out, and it looked quite promising, but the film was rubbish. Too much attempted style over content. Some bits of action were ok, but for the most part it wasn't.

Black Sheep – 2,5/5
Moderately fun but too many cliché, too little originality and not enough gore. The film is quite graphic at times (the IMDB pg-13 is a mistake, this is strong R) but you often get the feeling they were holding back. For example there’s a chainsaw in one scene but it’s not used. Too bad because the basic idea is pretty hilarious and a more inventive execution could have made this a classic. Now it feels like a mainsteam version of early Peter Jackson movies.

Once Upon A Time In America - 4/5

A definite slow burner, epic in scope but it is very good. Robert De Niro and James Woods in particular are outstanding. I really liked some of the music in the film, beyond Morricone's music there's a scene near the end with the older De Niro and Woods, and in the background, you can just about hear Yesterday used to good effect in that scene. The music really added to the atmosphere.
It was a bit confusing at first how the film jumped back and forth in time but I got used to it. The acting in the childhood flashback with the young kids was very good too.
There are some shocking scenes though like when Deborah is raped by Noodles (De Niro) which is hard to watch. Noodles is supposed to be infatuated with Deborah since childhood but she was too smart and talented for him to keep up with. What makes it even harder is it comes right after a scene of tenderness.

Halloween (2007) 2/5

This is an average reimagining of Carpenter's classic.the movie starts off well with an insight into michael's family life and what tips him over the edge. Unfortunately when the older Michael escapes and makes it back to Haddonfield the film becomes almost an inferior shot for shot retread of the original. plenty of gore, nudity and the body count is upped, Malcolm Mcdowell is very poor as Loomis. The ending is crap but apparently it's been reshot after poor audience reviews.

Straightheads 0.5/5

one of the worst films i've seen in a long time, incredible to think they got lottery funding to make this rubbish. Gillian Anderson needs to get back to the X-Files asap. As for Danny Dyer well he is dire in this awful tale of rape, revenge and murder. it's like something Michael Winner might have made years ago only without the humour.

I actually think the original is vastly overrated: your typical slasher flick but without the gore.

I'd say the remake actually has a chance - in my eyes - to surpass it.
As for Danny Dyer well he is dire
So nothing new then?

Believe me,the new Halloween is not a patch on the original which i thought was a great movie.not as good as assault on precinct 13 though :) Danny Dyer was ok in Severance.

A History of Violence - 2/5
Waste of a rental. Aside from the OTT action it started off okay but then it just got stupid and ended abruptly.

O Brother, Where Art Thou? - 4/5
I can't say I'd especially want to see it again but it was reasonably well made and most entertaining. Clooney was surprisingly good.

I would disagree Halloween is your average slasher flick. Some of the shots are so brilliantly composed. Sadly after Part 1 it goes very quickly down hill. I do think it's a bit overrated though.

Brad/Mark, have you seen Once Upon A Time in America?
I liked some of the music as much as Morricone's Western scores.
