Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 4-4.5/5
I loved this!!! I'm not gay, honest, but Depp is just amazing! His Willy Wonka character is uncaring, socially not very good, tactless and blunt - and all of this makes him hysterical!
Granted most of the imagery was possibly described well in the book (not read it so don't know) but having someone with Tim Burton's surreal imagination on board was a genius move! The inside of the factory is absolutely crazy in its imagination, and reminded me a lot of the "story sequences" from Big Fish.
Anyway, little Charlie is pretty much playing 2nd fiddle here as once he is in it, it is Depp's show, stealing most scenes just like he did in Pirates of the Carib.
Think I might even go see this again.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit spoiler/question:
If Dr. Doom (as a toon) killed Bob Hoskins' brother, how was he able to turn back into a "human" form (thats how we see him for most of the film) before being turned again?
Though I'm not using all the speakers at the moment - the sound was very good (didnt notice much bass though)

Antarctic Journal - 3.5/5
This was a pretty interesting film. Throughout the first half you are lead to believe that its going to be a standard supernatural horror flick, and i thought i knew exactly what was going to happen. To my surprise, it went in a different direction, but this new direction could easily be argued as a negitive aspect as well.
The cinematography is gorgeous and captures the beautiful snow-covered scenery very well. I really liked the soundtrack also, very fitting.
Without going into details, there were some aspects of the story that i think should have been done differently or explored deeper..but overall a enjoyable film that is visually fantastic and takes a neat, unexpected turn away from being completely predictable.

Human Lanterns - 3/5
Interesting Shaw Bros period horror movie (I guess its horror).
Was the HK Human Lanterns cut? I think it was
Good production values too.
The UK disc is awful - why is the picture only letterbox? The menu music is atrocious also, with cheesy chop socky sound effects when you select something

Danny the dog 5/5
Well i'd seen this before but never on my system with the luuurvely DTS
I really do love this film, I much prefeer it to any of Jet Li's hollywood movies. the big plus for me is the action, its all very physical, apart from one fight (which was a great fight I must admit) theres no gravity denying stuff, plenty of scrapping, little posturing.
the DTS sound rocked, right from the opening scene!

A Bittersweet Life - 4/5
Awesome film. I wont drag this on because i'll just be repeating what everyone else has said, but its a great revenge story with an outstanding finale.
I also must comment on the firearm sound effects in the film, which are the best since Heat.
Great stuff!
Windstruck - 4/5
I loved this! but i can deffintly see why so many people hated it. One thing i didn't like is that it didn't really give alot of explanation on how exactly the two of them got into their relationship and became so closely connected, but then again its already a two hour film so it makes sense.
The events in the film are silly and unrealistic, and in the 3rd act Kwak Jae-young goes completly over the top with the melodrama...but i think the film WORKS very well that way. Very enjoyable movie.
Appleseed - 4.5/5 (2nd viewing)
Just had to bump my rating up to 4.5. This was a damn near perfect sci-fi/action anime for me.
