Nightbreed (1990) - 2/5
All over the place and lacked continuity, but that's because the studio cut loads out. David Cronenberg's masked character was so much like Christopher Nolan's Scarecrow!

I'm going through them all (the non-Argentos), wading through the shit to pick out the gems haha. So far the best ones have been by Sergio Martino, and Black Belly of the Tarantula.

I've seen them all (except the Spy Kids movies) and The Faculty is the sharpest and most entertaining film Rodriguez has made. Care to name better?luckystars wrote:Not even close!!Markgway wrote:The Faculty (1998-USA) ***

Desperado and Planet Terror are both better films than The Faculty too.

Desperado is great, otherwise he only makes rubbish. Sin City was okay, very overrated.
I've not seen the Spy Kid films or Planet Terror to be able to comment.

I found El Mariachi pretty dull. It's interesting as a film school project though. Once upon a time in Mexico is ridiculous.

Plot of Fear (1976) - 2.5/5
Very '70s and very Italian, not enough time spent on the murders and too much time spent fooling around.

Didn't like Sin City... Planet Terror was OK... Desperado was quite good (El Mariachi same)... Mexico, again, OK, I think (don't remember it as well as the others, which is probably telling me something).
None of them I enjoyed as much as The Faculty.
EDIT: Machette was mediocre... From Dusk Till Dawn likewise.

If you were rating out of 10, what would you give it Mark? I'm not sure if you consider 2 out of 4 to be good or bad. I'm guessing average?

CARNIVAL OF SOULS (1998)
Okish "Wes Craven Presents" loose remake of the 1962 classic. Quite atmospheric and with some effective, if obvious, scares, but held back by broad acting and an unsatisfying script.

A little something like this........bradavon wrote:If you were rating out of 10, what would you give it Mark? I'm not sure if you consider 2 out of 4 to be good or bad. I'm guessing average?
* Crap/Shite (0)
*½ Poor/Below Average (1-2)
** Mediocre/Average (3-4)
**½ Decent/Quite Good (5-6)
*** Good/Above Average (7-8)
***½ Very Good/Excellent (9)
**** Classic/Masterpiece (10)
STAR TREK would be a 4/10

OPEN WATER (2003)
Though I dislike the DV photography, this is a very scary and effective film - and one more reason not to go anywhere near fish!
Surprisingly for a '15', there is some full frontal nudity. Not complaining though!
7/10

Re: What general film/series have you just seen.. marks out
BBFC usually rate full frontal '18'?
Thankfully 'G' in Finland.
The Other Side of Sleep (UK, 2010) – 2/5
An interesting dream-like yet gritty murder mystery that should find its audience, although those looking for a strong character film will be disappointed. The impressively minimal style serves general arthousiness, and, perhaps atmosphere also, but does not translate as serve subtle character exposition as might be expected from a film of such minimal nature. It’s not a flaw necessarily, but will leave many viewers cold.
Turn me on, Goddammit (Norway, 2011) – 3/5
Norway’s late answer to Fucking Åmol (in the lack of better comparison). The 15 year old Alma is horny – unfortunately she lives in a godforsaken small town with no good guys to fuck... except one, who turns out to be a real dick. A relatively standard Scandinavian youth-drama-comedy that benefits from the director’s documentarian background – there’s a nice layer of grain and fresh air to make the film more lively that it might be in the hands of a more boring director. A fun film with excellent leading performance (Helene Bergsholm), despite falling a little short overall thanks to worn out storyline. Potentially slightly touchy in the US, UK, and other sexually under-developed countries, but has notable success potential in the Nordic countries. Ideal film for semi-mainstream audiences.

(sorry, couldn't refuse
Brad gonna be angry again)
edit: I don't know why but I have a feeling that Grim would love the hell out of this film

For nudity it depends on the context. You can have full frontal in a 'PG' if it's non-sexual. Sexual would make it a '15' minimum.
