I'd be very surprised if they have a commentary no EE release has so far and some have commentaries available. They may get some featurettes though but no other Kurosawa title has so far so I can't see TOB being any different and the mods have already said VC will be low on extras.

They've created a few extras of their own but it's not something they do regularly.

MichaelDVD usually get reviews when the title goes rental. I believe as far as Violent Cop is concerned it's a few months away and the DVD isn't past the "license agreed" stage. So put simply no DVD is remotely ready to give out to people.

I'm sure it will beat the competition, it wouldn't be hard. If you're an eager beaver you could post at the Madman forums, the link is in the first post at the bottom (or it is the start I can't remember).

I'm no longer going to list rental titles other than a brief listing, there seems little point.

FYI The Eye with DTS and extras is out on the 16th of March rental. It looks like this will be my first EE DVD when it (should) goes retail in June. I've been waiting for ages for an anamorphic, DTS + extras DVD.

I'll do a proper update over the next few days but quickly:

It's good to see at last not only Kurosawa titles are going retail at the same time as rental.

I don't about you but Eastern Eye are certainly making up in quantity what they may lack in quality (as far as I can tell on a whole their releases have been good also).

While all of Premier Asia's releases have been excellent from a technical point of view Eastern Eye has far surpassed the available titles already.

I know. It and Sonatine are a surprise. Even more of a surprise is the very quick retail turn around. I'm betting they've realised these aren't "that" popular say compared with a big budget Korean flick so haven't bothered with the rental option.

The Blade has already been asked for but Madman never replied to the post.

Am I the only one itching to own an EE DVD? So far they've not released a title I want to own enough.

I think I'll buy Princess Blade EE.
Not the others because I already own better versions.

-Musa: Korean disc is fine.
-JSA: French disc is perfect (for me

).
-Arahan: Korean disc is good enough.
-Volcano High: Korean disc.

I might get one or two of those Kitano movies, though.

What about the Kurosawa titles? Many are far superior to the competition and look to stay that way.

Please post your thoughts of the Princess Blade DVD if/when you get it.

EE are bringing out a Kurosawa boxset containing Seven Samurai, Hidden Fortress, Yojimbo, Sanjuro. I've seen their Seven Samurai, Yojimbo and Sanjuro discs - the transfers are top notch, wish they had some extras though (especially historian/biographer commentaries)

BTW Bradavon:
EE Sanjuro only has DD1.0, no DD5.1 remix. You've listed JSA's aspect ratio as 1.85, the EE disc is 2.20 (OAR 2.35).

* "Ju-on: The Grudge 2" is going rental on the 18th of May.

* "Twilight Samurai" is going rental on the 25th of May. It has the potential to beat the competition! (Extras + English subs wise).

* "Red Beard" is going rental on the 25th of May.

That's all I can find out right now. All are listed as being WS and in the original language but that was a given. In only 7 months we should be able to own these!

Nope, only seen the EE R4's.

I saw their Hidden Fortress disc yesterday. The only extra (aside the trailer) is the George Lucas interview ported over from the Criterion. Another great transfer.

For those who are bothered by this this one is an NTSC to PAL conversion. I don't think the others are but they "could" be.

I'll probably get the Criterion on this one, it's a fair price and also excellent quality.

Brad, could you plz keep listing the rental release dates for EE titles? It might not be a concern to you lot in Britain, but they're those in Australasia (eg me - am I the only one?) who do read this board.

I do already, so members can see how long titles will take to go retail but good point this isn't a UK only forum.

I just haven't put them in the title page/first post. All the rentals I come across are added as and when I notice them. I'll compile a list of rentals post and bastardise one of my most posts on the main page. There is bound to be a post I can re-edit.

I even mentioned it in a thread that 'we', the costumers, want an uncut, original scored/language release of the movie...
Guess they still think martial arts fans cant handle a lil thing called 'plot'.

As I've said before,if there's a scene ina movie I dont like,and I just wanna see the action-scenes, I have a fast forward button so I can skip those scenes myself! i dont need someone else deciding for me what to skip.

I doubt it. Both cases.

Perhaps we'll have to wait 10-20 years befroe we can finally see an uncut, original language/sound version fo Ong-bak, just like some parts of the world had to wait 10-20 years before they could finally see the Bruce Lee movies uncut and original language...

Guess we havent really made much progress at all. Movie-producers are still cultural bastards.
