No, but I don't like movies based on graphic novels or videogames. They're nearly always dumb trash.

I can't believe Grim thought I was referring to The Sound of Music! :D
:D

It was only because your post came right after Biscs which was talking about The Sound of Music, and you just said "Don't fancy it" :D

I've decided to go to what I originally wanted to give 300 - 3/5 :)

Aww, bugger it. I'm going to do something I've never wanted to do and give a half-mark - 3.5/5

hey,

Running Out of Time 2 - 3.5/5

God, people were really hating this sequel. But echoing the first movie pretty much equally (minus the running out of time bit), Johnnie To creates as much immersing coolness as the first film. Absurd, silly and supremely cool thanks to its two leads (even usual vacuum Ekin Cheng), negatives, but not enough to ruin, are English dialogue scenes, Hui Siu-Hung hamming it up way too much and the writers not delivering a riveting coda considering the creativity seen prior in the flick.

Just saw it myself, its far from an average 3 stars from me, but far from a 5 star stunner too :) so it gets 4 from me :D the action alone makes me lust after it.

I know, I'm torn in terms of the score. Sometimes I think it's a 4 and then other parts of it (especially when I compare it to the graphic novel) make it a 3.

Ahh theres the flaw, I didnt see the source material. Once you have an image in your mind the films never going to be that I say, thats why I dont care for books at all, dont want the inevitable film ruined :D

Snyder stuck pretty close to the original book; he used the panels in the comic as storyboards. The problems with the film occur when he added his own bits (like the weak Queen Gorgo sub-plot) in an attempt at giving the film depth, when it's not really the kind of film that needs it.

One of the best movies I have recently watched. Can't believe it took 6 years to get it financed. Wonderful film with a great leading actor.
You make an intresting point IMHO.

The first Rocky is a guilty pleasure of mine, I should hate it becuz it is utterly contrived tripe but it is hard to do so. You can't help but root for that charming mumbling underdog, especially when Bill Conti's fabulous score starts to play.

You either have an unusual memory or you have created an Excel-file with all our ratings in case you need to strike back. :D

@EVA
And Eva, how is the first "Rocky" a guilty pleasure. It's one of the few 5/5 movies to me.

It's not hard to remember one of the very few reviews out there that praised the film. ;)

Ahh I dit know he added that, personally I liked her part and it kind of fleshed out the film a little, even if it was quite pointless when I think asbout it :D still her part and her rallying the troops was something the film needed by the end I thought.

Well, we'll have to agree to disagree; you think it adds to the story, I think it detracts. :)

Just remembered:

I have a different points scheme to (I'm assuming) most of you:
0/5 - As pleasant as a loose stool sample.
1/5 - Distinct whiff of tripe.
2/5 - Average.
3/5 - Good, solid entertainment.
4/5 - Excellent stuff.
5/5 - Hard-Boiled :D

Which is why (we finally get to it :)) I don't consider 3/5 to be average, but good.

hey,

next "WTF? :D" then. ;)

The Roar Of The Vietnamese 3/5

A more action oriented The Story Of Woo Viet if you will, director Jeng Wing-Chiu (who also co-wrote) delivers an dependant immigrant drama that is suitably but not unnecessarily spiced up with bloody gunplay.

Predator:

4.5/5

Classic. The R1 SE has a very good DTS track, by the way.
