Saw about 90 minutes of Letters of Iwo Jima before I simply couldn't take the distorted mono sound and terrible print anymore and got a refund. I'll wait for DVD. The 90 minutes or so I saw was pretty damn good...would have been better with the proper presentation.

District 13 - 4.25/5

Lots of fun :D Felt like a European Ong-Bak at times, with some very impressive freestyle rooftop running/jumping/car chases etc :)

I just had a gander at TBB: PE.
The 8mm UK trailer looks like a piece of grainy crap but I remember seeing something like it once on a VHS (that was the first time I saw the nanchuku footage from his films) - labelled "Original uncut cinema trailers"

A shame the long print couldn't be got hold of and the "Deleted Scenes examined" part doesnt say anything new but its interesting to see (sort of) reconstruction of rare stuffs. :)

I like the UK dub's funky theme :D

Not watched the film yet.

Hey

If anyone has the UK District 13 DVD, what was the trailer before it? Clearly Lost-influenced (the trailer), with a group of guys seemingly marooned on an island or something like that - and another one was some naff looking horror/comedy called 2001 Maniacs.

The Science of Sleep - 5/5

We were all laughing in the cinema throughout, it was really funny. And of course it was magical, innovative, and inspirational as can be expected of a Michel Gondry film. I thoroughly enjoyed it, just like I knew I would.

Watched this again on the train journey on friday, still a pretty good, fun film. great coreography

Bring it on: Again 3/4
Stil lsome great coreography but the story lacks a bit from the first, but ok concept. watched this on the train down too

Bring it on: All or Nothing 2/5
Again good coreography, tho not as good as the previous two. the story rather sucked tho. watched this one on the train home

Supernatural s02 Ep1-10 4.5/5
i really like this series, the first season was really great. the 2nd season seems to be following suit. some of the storylines are a little weak but overall its still pretty good.

Once A Thief 3/5

Was alright, but nothing special. Would have been better if all the stupidity in wasn't there. I don't mind comedy in action films, but when it is as crap and out of place as it is in this film then it just ruins it. Terrible dubbing on the DVD as well (Megastar). Was quite off putting at first, but then I got used to it.

In The Mood For Love - 4.25/5

It's been at least 7 years since I saw this (I saw it on its cinema release).
I appreciate it a lot more now I think - maybe the fact the film seems to be in "pieces" - meeting, fade to black, story, fade to black etc, makes the film seem episodic and move a bit slowly, but its still very good. Tony Leung and Maggie are superb (Maggie's costumes and dresses are amazing), the feel of HK in 1960's is captured really well with the costumes and memorable use of music, including Spanish language versions of Nat King Cole songs.

True to form, upon viewing it in 2000 my mum hated it  :D Even then I could see merit in it, (acting, music etc) but it seemed plodding back then.

Through their meetings Tony and Maggie "do" fall in love I think, but decide they can't be together right?

My Criterion played fine, no trouble :)

You had the MegaStar disc and decided to watch it dubbed? Wow. I watch American films with the German dub, but I wouldn't be able to stand 1 minute of a MegaStar dub. I'm impressed.

No no no... I watched it in the Cantonese soundtrack, but it was obvious the words I was hearing didn't even closely match the mouth movements.

Oh, I see. LOL! Kinda thought you watched the English dub. I don't know if there is one for "Once a Thief" on the MegaStar disc, but they released a few titles with atrocious English dubs. :D
