There was a different GH logo at the beginnig - probably the 70's GH logo. That was cool to see, I wonder why more releases don't have that?

The Blade - 4/5
Among Tsui Hark's odd at times uneven filmography, The Blade stands out as one of his best. Great camera work, great fight choreography, lacking plot but who gives a shit about that. All in all, this is Tsui Hark's last good film. Everything since this is pretty much crap.

Yup it was rather great, if disturbing when you acctually think about it all

the sad thing is it was 10000% times worse than what was in the film, the stories that I have seen are staggering.

People eating each other alive, children forced to bite friends to death, babies roasted alive then forced to be eaten by the family! friends and family forced to rape familt and friends, so many tales of evil, good job they were kept from the film as I was nearly sick by many of the evil acts people did over there. They deserve to burn in hell.

This film is about the only thing your average person will have seen about it, I looked into it and watched many documantries about it and its some of the most disturbing stuff I have ever heard, or seen.

My thoughts about "Blood Diamond" from earlier in this thread:

Blood Diamond - 3.5/5
DiCaprio has become a really good actor. Djimon Hounsou outshined him however. This film could easily have been a 4.5/5, but Jennifer Connelly's character was not needed in my opinion and was out of place most of the time. Like some producer of the film said, "We need some love interest for Leonardo."
What started out like some untypical Hollywood flick became just rudiculous when they are ambushed in the jungle and she manages to calm them all down by her stupid camera. I liked the ending.

Hey,

I've just seen the "Original Trailer" for Hand of Death on the Fox DVD. Was this some sort of English export trailer? Voice over man sounds familliar from some of the Shaw Bros. trailers (and also the beginning of the English dub of Prodigal Son).

I disagree completely. Whilst Connelly's role was not the main highlight of the film, her character was integeral to the storyline and she gave a fine performance with the time she had. Her character raised some interesting arguements against Leo's and vice versa.

But not a single argument which the audience doesn't represent already. We all know that what Leo's character is doing is wrong. I don't need that her character to understand that. They could have gotten any other journalist character for the one important moment of her's at the end IMO.

Old Grey Whistle Test Vol 1 (Disc 2) - 3.5/5

There were some good tracks - I liked the eerie, atmospheric "Ghosts" by the group Japan (1982) - with some unsettling electronic work, and Nine Below Zero's version of "Stone Fox Chase" (the Old Grey Whistle Test theme).

A Rascal's Tale 2/5

Ordinary triad drama with a cocky young one at center encouraged to go to school. Once you're in the triads however, downard spiiiiral time. Plus points for a gritty brawl in the final reel.

Banana Club 3/5

Same inspiration as Anthony Wong's Top Banana Club released a few months earlier but this is more concrete stuff. Generally pleasant rom/com with Michael Chow and Pauline Suen sharing good scenes.

I'm not surprised.

This is IMO the best chinese film ever made (by far), so it's only natural that you hate it.

You should try The Emperor and the Assassin, though (out of curiosity).

Although it is terrible, I did find it to be unintentionally funny. One of those "so bad it's good" films, like Story of Ricky. I'd happily watch it with some mates over a few beers, and slate the movie to hell.

I have Emperor and the Assassin but am reluctant to watch it now.

Some good witty dialogue in places, but that's it. Nothing really happens, it's not hilarious, it is just decent. Slightly better than average due to its good dialogue.

Ghost Rider - 3/5
Crappy script, subpar acting, predictable plot but everything else was better than I expected. Its no Spidey 2 or X2 or even Daredevil but better than The Punisher and certainly better than the crappy ass Fantastic 4.
