Oh well, thanks. I'll still be getting it.

Korean "Lust, Caution" listed as Unrated:

http://www.dvdfromkorea.com/shop/p_detail.asp?idx=6503

The link also includes a High Res. photo and the spec. is:

* 1 Disc (50GB) + 8 pages Booklet + Special Cover
* Screen Format : High Definition 1080p Widescreen Presentation 16:9
* Sound Mix : DTS-HD 7.1, PCM 7.1, Dolby Digital 5.1
* Extras :
- Tiles of Deception, Lust Affections
- TV Spots
- Theatrical Trailer
- Photo & Poster Gallery

This link also says it's Region A:

http://www.yesasia.com/global/lust-caut ... /info.html

Given that the Korean Taegukgi BD is Region Free this may not be.

The Banquet is getting released in France on September, 23. Probably without English subtitles :(

Plus Bandai Entertainment kinda announced a date for their first Blu-ray Disc release, Ghost in the Shell: Innocence.

I see Sony are using the title Dragon Dynasty came up with for The Banquet (presuming they did) too. "Legend of the Black Scorpion", it seems pretty pointless.

What's wrong with The Banquet anyway? Thankfully The UK release uses it, pity that disc is a mess.

So good it didn't even get released theatrically in Hong Kong. :D

Actually it was alright as I recall, but I would've started with a couple of classics.

Clueless_monkey has added the japanese BD of Swing Girls to his list.
No word yet on region coding or subtitles, but there's a very negative review on Amazon.co.jp

Now my japanese is extremely limited, but here's what I can decipher:
-Single layer disc.
-Poor picture quality with lots of grain, mosquito noise and artefacts.

I understand the BD is missing some extras that were on the DVD too.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Thanks. Surely we won't be seeing them at all, the companies gone bust.

Given that a minute ago I thought we'd never seem them, the fact we may see them in 2009 is great news.

According to YesAsia Swing Girls and Waterboys will have English subtitles!
Are you sure the Amazon.co.jp reviews are for the Blu-ray disc? Amazon sometimes mixes in some DVD reviews if the titles hasn't been release on Blu-ray.

@Clueless_Monkey:
Yes, I'm 100% sure that the review was BD-specific. No idea where the guy got it from, though.
But he makes references to the AVC encode and the 5.1 PCM soundtrack, so there's no mistake.

If the Swing Girls BD really does have english subs, I'll buy it no matter what.
Well... unless it's region-locked, of course.

I'm not sure if Clueless_Monkey has mentioned these updates:

The Warlords: http://www.dddhouse.com/v3/product_deta ... uctID=8706
Seven Swords: http://www.dddhouse.com/v3/product_deta ... uctID=8696
Mad Detective: http://www.dddhouse.com/v3/product_deta ... uctID=8738
An Empress and The Warriors: http://www.dddhouse.com/v3/product_deta ... uctID=8739
Lust, Caution: http://www.dddhouse.com/v3/product_deta ... uctID=8741
SPL: http://www.dddhouse.com/v3/product_deta ... uctID=8742

I'm guessing Lust, Caution will be cheaper than the Korean BD.

SPL, cool :D.

found this posting regarding The Warlords blu-ray over at hi-def digest

"Just checked the disk now.

Its region coded (for Region A only). Won't play in my UK PS3, but works happily in my US Panasonic.

I had a quick scan through it and the picture is quite stylised at times and theres quite a bit of grain in it. Initial impressions is that it looks good, but not stunning."

Thanks Salty. I'll be picking it up, along with Lust, Caution and probably SPL. It's really annoying that HK DVDs are cheap as chips but HK BDs are really bloody expensive.

It seems odd that they'd RA lock it when The USA is RA too anyway. I doubt European studios are big enough to enforce region coding.

* Any idea anyone how "Lust, Caution" HK, Japanese and Korean BDs compare?
* And how do Assembly UK and HK BDs compare?

They all look pretty much identical (relative to title), except for guaranteed English subtitled extras on the UK Assembly BD. Speaking of extras the UK BD has loads whereas the HK BD only has a handful:

http://img.affenheimtheater.de/cover_br ... bly_uk.jpg

Ordinarily I'd go for the HK Lust, Caution but when it comes to BDs HK discs aren't always cheaper.

All the previous Mega Star BDs have been Region-Free (despite an 'A' assignation). Not a good sign if they're actually doing it for real now.

Hopefully it's a one off. Now Optimum are also encoding some disc RB only, you cannot even rely on an RA only BD Player.

Looks like Mei Ah doesn't want people to buy their Blu-ray releases :roll:

A watermark - What the Fuck! :evil:

I already planned to wait for the Eureka: Masters of Cinema BD. This confirms it. Watermarking any films makes it null and void. I don't care how good it is otherwise, it's useless.
