I agree it was nice seeing Ah-nuld again, maybe the scene was meant to be cringey.

That scene should have been iconic. Instead it fizzled thanks to weak writing and indifferent acting. There's a fine line between having fun on a set and looking like you couldn't give a shit...

Resident Evil Afterlife: 2.5/5
I'd never seen a RE film before - and to be honest this is more action than horror (I'm not a big horror person), and... I rather enjoyed it.
Was rather cheesy in places, the final big set piece is one giant rip off of The Matrix with an Agent Smith a-like and bullet time aplenty
That did make me laugh though

Do you watch TV shows by starting at the end few episodes and skipping the first 3rd

I would just refuse to see any sequel before I see the first, so get the other 3 films watched now then, some of it may make some sense if you do that
you must have been sitting there thinking what? what? what? a lot
the beginning esspecially must have been like what!
and hey Agent Smith came along many, many years after the character in the Resident Evil games which the film is based on, so they copied from him

I've seen the first 3 RE movies and i don't know what's going on
i doubt many people watch these for the story,i'm pretty sure you could watch part 4 prely as a standalone actioner

You could watch any film as a separate one in theory, but you would not exactly enjoy it much with so much missing.saltysam wrote:I've seen the first 3 RE movies and i don't know what's going oni doubt many people watch these for the story,i'm pretty sure you could watch part 4 prely as a standalone actioner
Part 4 starts off where part 3 ended, you would be seriously confused as to what the hell is going on as they do not explain it at all in any way, it just starts, and you would miss a massive amount of the film as you have no idea what went on before, who people were, who died, who is good, bad etc etc.. even the last shot of the film you would not get at all either haha it meant something to people who saw the films, nothing at all to others.
Sill I would give Afterlife 4 out of 5 very polished with some amazing sequences, and the 3D is maybe the best ever created

I've only seen Part 1. Better than I was expecting but nothing special. It doesn't make me want to see all the numerous sequels.

Doesn't matter. Apart from a couple of character names and the title, there's no connection. These silly teen movies (well, the first 3, I haven't seen Afterlife) are a disgrace for the games anyway.grim_tales wrote:I havent played any of the Resident Evil games either so only vaguely knew the story

EDGE OF DARKNESS
Huge disappointment from Mad Max and the director of Casino Royale.
Leaden, muddled, barely believeable thriller.
One of those rare films that had enormous potential but just gets everything wrong.
A PERFECT GETAWAY
Slick horror-thriller has a good cast and neat twist - but doesn't seem to mind that said twist negates much of what we've already seen.
Some viewers may not mind such laziness.
SHUTTER ISLAND
Complex, multi-layered, and well-crafted chiller.
Not the sort of film I'd be in a hurry to rewatch but worth seeing once for sure.
This is the Scorcese of Cape Fear.
DiCaprio is excellent, having come a long way as an actor.
THE BEYOND
What a load of pish.
Gore effects (the ONLY reason to watch a Fulci film) range from impressive to downright cheesy.
Still any film in which a little ginger girl's head is blown off is gonna have its' fans.

"SHUTTER ISLAND

Good to hear. It didn't appeal to me during it's cinema run but maybe I was wrong. The last excellent Scorcese film I saw was "Bringing Out the Dead " and a lot of people dislike that, it was also over a decade ago. I hear Aviator is good though. Both Gangs of New York (although certainly flawed) and Departed are good but not excellent.

Shutter Island is a pile of wank by the end, nice start, nice middle but the end sections decimatingly shit. I pretty much fell asleep it is such a bore of a film.
The Departed is vastly better.
I love the way people who have played the games think they are some sort of masterpiece of story telling, acting and originality and somehow are these hardcore adult games
They ARE teenager games, you could not get more teen orientated games, shit ones at that with absolutely way over complex and badly written storyline, direlogue and voice acting is shocking beyond words, plot and pretty much everything sucks balls. Its a game.
Even the films piss on the games from miles above. Then add in the actual control system for the games and it makes them total and utter garbage.
Next you will be saying how amazing the Mario games plots and characters were

Don't think Shutter Island is as bad as you make out Romero but it was certainly very disappointing and yes, boring in parts.luckily i sold on my blu-ray at cost on avforums straight away so it worked out as a free rental for me.

I am not saying its bad (cannot remember what I gave it, 2.5 or 3 out of 5), I liked it all the way until it fell apart in the last 20 minutes or so, that ending just killed it dead for me sadly. Not bad, just a painful end.

Resident Evil the film is pure trash from beginning to end with some of the worst "CG" of any contemporary Hollywood film, it's sequel isn't much better either. You'd have to pay me or torture me to sit through the rest! You did the right thing Grim by not checking out the prequels before going to see pt.4.

Might check out the games on the Wii though, RE4 (the game) is more action based than the earlier games isnt it?HungFist wrote:Doesn't matter. I don't know why you talk about story telling, acting and originality. None of them were ever even attempted in the RE games. Well, the old ones at least. I haven't played the latest one(s).
It was the atmosphere that made those games so great. RE1 remake is a good example. While the movies use rock music and Matrix style action scenes, the game uses silence and details. Shadows, dust falling from the roof, dead bodies lying on the floor, the sound of wind coming outside, crows sitting on a fence and so on. Plus stiff gameplay. There wasn't any martial arts or rock music...
Of course, it's a bit too slow and quiet for teens. They want to move and shoot at the same time
I don't care if they keep doing Resident Evil movies, just irritates a bit that they are calling them Resident Evil when there's almost no relation and the style is pretty much the opposite.

It's easily one of the worst "Hollywood" films of this century, easily. As Hung says it was the tense atmosphere that made the games successful, of which Anderson's moronic action film has not a single iota.romerojpg wrote:Its not even close to the badness of hundreds of othersmany with far greater budgets.

Yeah the Resident Evil games are pretty scary and the films aren't at all.
