I dont have a overly romatic view of other countries. There are a few I like and I have specific reasons WHY I like them much more over Holland.
And following the daily national news day in day out, for many many MANY years now, Holland DOES REALLY suck in lots of aspects. And yeah, it also has good stuff, but that's also being destroyed by our goverment.
It's way too complicated to explain EVERYTHING here. So let's just keep it at the fact that I would be happier in another place where local politics wouldnt be as bothersome and full of corruption and bullshit.
I mentioned Hong Kong as an example, cause it might have stuff that's less good than Holland, but also ALOT of stuff that's better. And you only pay 10% tax and it seems the goverment spends that VERY well, as opposed to Holland where you pay 35%+, and the goverment pretty much fucks it all away.
It seems your tax-dollars in Hong Kong are much better spend by that goverment. You really see it back all around you, when you're there. Police in the streets, streets being kept clean, parks, safety, great public transportation, etc etc.
Anyway, like I said, it's way too much and too complicated to explain EVERYTHING thatis wrong with Holland. Right-wing populistic politicians coming up, old people getting screwed, education more and more worthless, housing way too expensive, no safetly, failing police, failing healthcare, etc etc.

I'm willing to bet a straw poll would say the exact same thing about The UKYi-Long wrote:And following the daily national news day in day out, for many many MANY years now, Holland DOES REALLY suck in lots of aspects. That does sound like a very romanticised outlook to me. You're making gross assumptions having only visited other countries. It's very, very different having lived somewhere for a minimum of 5 years. No offence intended.Yi-Long wrote:It's way too complicated to explain EVERYTHING here. To take Hong Kong as an example I bet their holiday allowance isn't anywhere near as good as we get in Europe (which isn't as good as they get in America). I know in Thailand and Japan anyway they'd be lucky to get a week off, outside of public holidays.
That said I do completely understand where you're coming from. I too plan to emigrate to another county but it will be somewhere else in Europe, maybe Spain BUT absolutely not the English ex-pat part.
I cannot stand many people's small minded out look in this county to Europe, foreigners, how most British people consider themselves superior to other nationalities, the completely closed in nature of Britain (which thankfully isn't as bad as America), people's lack of basic respect etc...
I'm too European at heart. I adore the Far East in so many ways. Thailand and Japan are stunningly attractive countries (not just the people or countryside) but I wouldn't want to live in the Far East. I did once but not today. I also like America but I certainly could never live there.

I've got a standard retirement, but given my family's tendency not to live past 60, it'll be quite ironic if I end up broke at 80.
