Nice one thanks Mr. Tom. Why on earth it was cut is beyond me.

I'm going to wait until about March though just to be as sure as I can be about the DC but then get the UK R2.

EDIT: How come the deleted scene has HOH subs???

I guess you're one of those people who thought that's Yeoh.

I think maybe the R4 is marginally the best, followed by the R2, then the R1. It's a close thing between all three though. Of course, the R1's dubtitles rule it out, unless you need to have that deleted scene.

Actually, I'd say that R4 is the exact same disc as the R2UK, since it is dual-encoded for R2/4. So why that Mark's R2 looks brighter and lacks the green tint is probably down to him not using PowerDVD (which I presume that Tom used, I did).

In real world tests, all 3 DVDs probably looking exactly the same, would be my wager.

Or if you aim on buying the HD-DVD/DVD combo.

Based solely on those captures I'd say actually it's the R1 and R4 which look the same with UK R2 looking different.

I suspect you're right.

How does the R4 differ to UK R2? It's the same right? And also proper non-dubtitles/non-HOH subs right?

Cheers

How would not using PowerDVD change the appearence?

Surely the screenshot can only capture what's there?

Maybe each print is marginally different? That's not uncommon otherwise why would we bother comparing in the first place?

All PCs will convert to a Jpeg slightly different every single time, thats the nature of a Jpeg, no image is ever the same compression.

Exactly, which is why using the PNG format is better, there is no loss of information on the image :)

I like the film, but dont want any of these shitty no extras vdds :( I am getting sick to death of them wasting time and putting out a film on a dvd with no extra content at all, at least try you morons! so I will wait, worst that happens is it never comes and I get the normal dvd for a few quid.

Unless Salty has a capture card he won't be able to, they won't be accurate anyway.

tbh all versions i've seen of this have looked pretty decent, including the subtitled boot i first owned which was framed around 1:85:1.

Ow oh yeah it's supposed to be 2.35:1. I wonder if at 1.85:1 is open matt or cropped.

Have you checked?

Cool.

It would be nice if 2.35:1 films like this the 1.85:1 print would also get released.

It was obviously shot in 1.85:1, that's what we can tell. What the director later intended it to be is another matter. If he wanted it to be 2.35:1, he should have shot it this way, as then you won't have to crop from the top/bottom/both.

It's next to impossible to shoot a film at 1.85 and then matte it to 2.35. It would be unwatchable. It was either shot in scope or Super 35. If Tom says there's more image when it's shown at 1.85 then it must be Super 35.
