It wasn't. The film was originally called Countdown in Kung Fu and the title should turn to red just like the director's credit. The AKA thing was done by Fortune Star. The film was released in HK theatres a year after its completion as Hand of Death. No idea if they altered the print in anyway to reflect this, but the English export print featured the newer title.

No, the Deltamac version has the original red screen but there is a small 'aka Hand of Death' at the bottom. Not sure if the Megastar DVD is the same. Deltamac features a lot of print damage.

Quite a few films suffered from this including 'Aces Go Places' and 'Zu Warriors'.

HK Video looks the best, then Fox. I doubt the HKL colours would bother me but I'd opt for the Fox too.

I hope not it's shit :D

Of course. When they get it right it sounds great. That's no excuse to lose Mono/Stereo of course.

And you thought I wouldn't be looking ;)

I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Lol, and where do you think Deltamac got their print from??

I've no idea if the Mega Star is the same, presumably? I used to have it but can't remember. At any rate it was likely added in the 1990's by STAR TV.

You implied that I was talking about the infamous white characters only by STAR TV (no red background) which features on the Fox/HKL releases. The Deltamac non-remaster has the original red background and 'Countdown' title card, but at the bottom right-hand corner, there is a small 'aka Hand of Death'.

Fox mono goes of of sync several times during the movie. The most important fight scenes are in sync, and somehow the sync problems were not as annoying as usual. Otherwise the mono sounds excellent. Transfer is very nice too. Gonna keep the disc.
