There's this from Jeffery Wells about the DC.....

How is it different exactly? I talked about it with a couple of Univeral Home Video publicists today and it's a little hard to describe, but I'll give it a shot. What it boils down to is that 7 minutes of never-before-seen extra footage have been added. Or maybe 9 minutes. It depends how you define the word "minutes." But a lot of stuff has also been re-edited and/or shortened or recalculated -- about 19 minutes worth, the publicists said. So if you add it up it's got about 28 and 1/2 minutes of fresh stuff...in a sense. Or, if you want to be a hard-ass about it, 7 minutes worth with some editorial reshuffling thrown in.

Most people define a minute as 60 seconds???

Sounds interesting and worth a watch, typical Mann of course, all his DCs are never just new footage.

p.s - R3 is confirmed to be the TC. I'm betting those R4 flyer extras won't end up appearing on the R4 and it too will be the TC, leaving the R1 DC exclusive to R1.

Sounds pathetic as usual Mann is a moron when re-doing his work. He likes to ruin his own films.

Don't buy it then. I will be.

I happen to like the Mann re-cuts as unlike most re-cuts they allow the story to flow in a different direction. It doesn't always work so well as it did originally but at least I get to see Mann's other ideas for the material.

If I don't like it I'll pick up the R3 (TC) so no worries.

Miami Vice - 3/5
Had a poor story that was entirely forgettable. The usual gritty atmosphere of a Mann film was present (obviously).

Someone please tell him to stop using the MTV-style shaky cam + medium shot combo for action scenes - the finale was barely followable. I mean just 2-3 years prior he made the terrific shoot-out sequence in the Yukuza night club in Collateral - what happened?

Yes, they mumble on the DVD too, I had to turn on the closed captions after a while. The Irish guy (his name escapes me) and Jamie Foxx were well cast in the Crockett and Tubbs roles IMO.

A hot as Gong Li is, all that crap about going off in the speed-boat to Havana, blah, blah was just dead-weight and losing it would've helped the pacing.

Which cut did you watch?

Personally I liked the way the shoot out were shot, it made them feel much more realistic, and different for a change.

I'd probably agree with you on that one.
