Ah well, doesnt bother me personally as I wasnt planning on seeing this shit anyway. Basic Instinct was a nice movie when I was still young and that kind of softporn crap would still turn me on I guess, but it's a shitty movie overall. Has Verhoeven written all over it, who is one of the worst directors ever IMHO.

I have to mostly agree Basic Instinct aside Verhoeven films are pretty trash. Robocop is decent enough but not a keeper, it's very B-Movie (it's not in the same league as Terminator).

And don't get me started on the utter trash that is Starship Troopers.

Robocop was decent, but thats because of a very good screenplay/story. It IS overrated, though. I've never been a big fan of that movie. It was OK, and that's it. could have been MUCH MUCH better if it had been done by a better director.

Verhoeven is a shock director: He gets an audience by using either extreme violence or sex in his movies. Some would say he's a rebel who is brave enough to go beyond what is socially acceptable. I'd say he's a lousy director with a trick.

Basic Instinct 2: I believe we all get the 'tamer' version of the movie. At least, thats what the review in the papers said.

Agreed. I actually wouldn't mind seeing an extended cut for that one, cuz some of the deleted scenes were far more raunchy reportedly (I've only seen the film on TV).

Bollocks to that, Robo is a classic.

I agree about Basic Instinct and Total Recall though, both very good movies which have a degree of intelligence and class about them also.

One of the deleted scenes from Hollow Man is the rape of the model in her apartment. The scene is much more effective and frightning uncut. By cutting the scene it changes the point at which the audience begins to be aware of what Hollow Man is capable of.

The same applies to the shooting of Mr. Kenny in RoboCop; a scene made more violent by the censors. I think I've mentioned it before (I lose track of all the crap I type). I remember being actually scared by the little stop-motion model of ED-209 blowing the poor exec away when I watched that scene as a kid. If it had run on to its original length, I don't think I would have been, as it moves into a blackly comic scene, with ED-209 malfunctioning and shooting a clearly dead person (I know, it doesn't sound funny, but it is, honest!)

Hmm... to be fair I can see why the MPAA cut that scene from Robocop. I don't think the extra bullet impacts help make it any less disturbing and if anything make it worse. Maybe it was intended to be comic, I'm sure on the commentary track that's said, but I never saw it that way... if it's supposed to be funny Verhoeven failed.

I didn't find either variation funny black or otherwise. It was just longer for me when shown uncut.

The uncut version is definitely better but still very much B-Movie glossed up to look more than it really is. I like Robocop but it's overrated.

It's a very knowing scene, especially in terms of the era of which it was made (i.e. the Reagan presidency). There's a whole bunch of social commentary going on in that one scene (some of which I got from viewings, other bits which I read up on), which happens to be something I like. It's not necessary to have politics as a focus to have political commentary in a film.

Perhaps, I'm just sick 8)

I know what you mean Kurgan, in the uncut version of the scene it becomes ludicrius and very darkly comic, especially when the guy says "Call a paramedic!" I mean the exec was shot so many times he's gone

watched this last night,blimey it's crap.the male lead morrissey must be the most uncharismatic lead in a hollywood movie ever. his character is a boring swine,it stretches crediblility that a hottie like stone would be interested in him. it also must be heavily cut,there's hardly any shagging in it

stone gets them out in a jaccuzzi scene briefly.there was more explicitness in the unrated trailer.
