Why not give the film Korean DD5.1 too? I don't get it. Even if it it's at the lower bit-rate. It makes even less sense when you consider Zhang Ziyi (how her name is supposed to be spelt) is up for Golden Globes for 'Memoirs of a Geisha'.

I'll have to re-watch the Director's Cut one day even though the UK R2 is so much nicer to look at and hear.

Hopes were so high for finally a decent uncut version of this but alas again it's not to be. Stick with the R4 or UK R2! (depending on your preference)

Why not give the film Korean DD5.1 too?

If space is an issue then why not have the English language Dolby Digital 2.0 and Korean 5.1 . that would make more sense.

The thing is DD2.0 takes roughly 150Mb for a 2hr film and 380Mb for low bit-rate DD5.1. It's about 450Mb for Full bit-rate DD5.1.

It will be more than 230Mb difference as the film is 150 minutes long but we're not talking a huge amount here so they could easily fit low bit-rate DD5.1 without causing any big noticeable differences to the PQ.

The difference is much more pronounced than that on a TV set. It gives you a rough ideas though.

Oh yeah now I see. It shows the UK R2 is consistently around 7Mbps but the Korean R3 fluctuates a lot.

Anyway DVD Times have this up now too but have slightly different information:

A barebones release the film is presented in its original Korean and Chinese (Mandarin) language with English subtitles.
