Ah excellent, I've been waiting for that! I hope they don't fuck up the encode/remaster like I heard they did for the Dracula one though.

One of the most impressive sequences in The Devil Rides Out – not quite the climax, but near enough – has the heroes inside a magic circle as Mocata’s satanic forces are sent to attack them. It’s a powerful, dramatic, almost hysterical scene that ranks amongst the best of Hammer’s dramatic set pieces, and renders the actual finale of the film a bit of an anti-climax. It’s also long been one of the most problematic moments of the film thanks to some special effects that were pitiful even at the time. Both the giant tarantula and the Angel of Death that Mocata send to attack are neutered by really, really rotten optical effects. This new version tweaks these and other effects in a surprising George Lucas style spot of digital revisionism. Okay, it’s not that dramatic – but unusually, there are several moments of new digitally created or revised effects in the film to improve on original imperfections. These are most obvious in this scene – the spider is made much more effective, the arrival (and facial close-up) of The Angel of Death arguably less so (simply because they are more obvious digitally created). None of these changes alter the dramatic thrust of the film, and I’d argue that even the most questionable are actually improvements over what was there to begin with – Hammer purists, however, might want to hold on to their old DVDs as well as own this.

I know, the 1-star Amazon reviews have started, people are cancelling their pre-orders, people are tweeting Hammer (including me, my first ever tweet I'm that annoyed haha). I can't believe they thought that would be a good idea, how out of touch can they get?

My Dad was interested in that title (one of the few Hammer films he really likes). I better warn him about the changes. You simply DON'T mess with old movie SFX. Lucas does it because he's a megalomaniacal arse. He's not a role model. Hammer's wait-and-see attitude misses the point completely and to say the unrestored is still available is a 'screw you' to anyone who wishes to own the original in HD. Epic fail.

BTW. My rental copy of Cabin in the Woods played without glitch. Needless to say I won't be buying it.

As an optional version it wouldn't be bad, it's not like they've made the effects look out of character for the film, but we need the original version available too.

Little Shop of Horrors (1986) - in October as a "Director's Cut" with not only the Theatrical Version but another one with a 20 minute (!) much darker alternate ending which sounds longer than the famous "unhappy ending" I heard about.

Here's a note about the restoration direct from Warner, "The footage of the original ending was previously available only in black & white in the extra content of a limited number of copies of a DVD edition released in 1998. Now, with the help of production notes from Frank Oz and others on the film's creative team, WHV has meticulously restored and digitally remastered the ending, in full color, with the elaborate special effects in tact. Sound has also been rebuilt and mixed in Dolby 5.1. The theatrical version has also been re-mastered."

Extras will include the following (no word yet on which of these extras are exclusive to Blu-ray):
*Theatrical version of the film with optional commentary
*The Director's Cut featuring the newly restored 20-minute alternate ending
*Digitally re-mastered picture and 5.1 sound on both versions
*"Frank Oz and Little Shop of Horrors: The Director's Cut," an introduction by Frank Oz with Richard Conway
*"A Story of Little Shop of Horrors" (behind-the-scenes documentary)
*Outtakes and deleted scenes with optional commentary
*Two theatrical trailers

The Blu-ray will also include a 40-page Digibook with production notes, stills and rare insights.

The BD cover has the MGM logo so it should be from the same HD master as the USA edition.
