Usually, a 5.1 version of an old Dolby Stereo film is no issue.bradavon wrote:Interesting perspective. Many, many 5.1 remixes of Stereo sources sound 99% identical to the stereo source to me (particularly when it's a Western film from a Western studio). I have no problem with those.Ivan Drago wrote:I have no problem with remixes that basically sound like the original film. 5.1 is really just a name. Its when they remake the sound, or tamper too much, that I get mad

It's more than a name if it's used correctly. 5.1 that sounds quite like mono is luck more than skill. New foley and keyboard music is a whole other bag of wrong.Ivan Drago wrote:I have no problem with remixes that basically sound like the original film. 5.1 is really just a name. Lesser of two evils certainly. But any upcoming disc can be improved with original mono is what I'm sayingbradavon wrote:Fair enough Mark. I just meant, considering "there is no mono" then a 5.1 mix of the type of The Killer is the better of two evils over the type Fortune Star release, no?
Good film. In a similar vein to all the other Andy Lau period martial arts releases of the past few years. More talk than action, IIRC; large scale battles rather than one-to-one combat. Correct me anyone if I'm wrong as I've seen so many of these recently.oldeschool17 wrote:Can anybody give an opinion on this movie? Is it wire fu fest or does it have legit fight choreography? The storyline/plot looks decent enough
Compared to remixed mono it's not worth worrying about, but there is a difference if you listen on headphones. Spreading 2 channels thru five reduces the central impact, and can seemingly make the sound appear weaker (I often have to turn 5.1 mixes louder than I would stereo). Try a disc that offers both tracks and see what I mean.Ivan Drago wrote:Usually, a 5.1 version of an old Dolby Stereo film is no issue.

Definitely but 5.1 from Stereo and done respectfully is much easier to achieve. There's only one way to do Mono and that's Mono!Markgway wrote:5.1 that sounds quite like mono is luck more than skill.
I know and agreedMarkgway wrote:Lesser of two evils certainly. But any upcoming disc can be improved with original mono is what I'm saying.

Crikey. I wasn't expecting that. Is Brian White still on-board? I wonder what will happen (if anything) to DD.

Lets hope their old school goodies go to Media Blasters, or Animego or somebody reliable!

Don't know if this 36th Chamber artwork is final, but there's no DD logo on it, just Vivendi:

Re: The Official "Dragon Dynasty" Thread!
Hkflix has a habit of putting posters as the covers before the companies release official cover art. However, considering the blu ray backdrop and vivendi logo on the bottom right corner... who knows? I honestly get the feeling this isn't the official artwork but it would be nice to have a throwback cover like that.

Re: The Official "Dragon Dynasty" Thread!
The artwork does look slapped onto the Blu-Ray template (look at the graphic 'overflowing' at the top), but it was the logo that convinced me that it could have been a genuine one. BCI were able to put it on (at least on reversible use), so I would imagine it's possible for Vivendi.
