No idea what my scores were. Crap, probably. Though I have had strikes. I've only been a few times. Using those bumpers looks like cheating to me. How are kids supposed to improve if they're protected that way?

Try to refine your technique until you can bowl a ball without hitting them

I admit I do use those but I very rarely hit them.

It's not about kids 'improving', silly.

It's to keep those little bastards from crying and yelling and acting like little pricks after they've hit 3 gutterballs and dont like it anymore!

I still think your technique has to be reasonably good, bumpers or no bumpers. You'll always do crap if all you do is put so much spin on the ball it just veers off to the left/right.
Next time - no bumpers

I wasnt bad but still had a few gutterballs

I never put any spin on the ball. I just throw it down the middle, and usually that's pretty succesful.

Hitting in the middle does the job in the beginning, but it's not a very good technique if you aim at higher scores. It may easily lead into a half impossible 7-10 situation (half-impossible, but not impossible. I have cleared that at least once... and my teacher came an inch away from losing his car when he bet with my friend).

Usually the best place to hit is between 1 and 2, with spin (the ball coming from the right).

You're right. I do usually aim a little to the right or left of the centerpin. No spin though. i tried a few times and it just doesnt feel 'comfortable', as in 'ARRRGGHHHH MY FINGER IS RIPPING OFFF!!! ARRRGHHH!!!'

So down the middle, straight, with a fraction to the left or right.

I know it's not the best method, and if I'd bown every week orso I'd definately train myself to be able to really control a spinthrow to go where I want it to go. But as I only bowl once every 1-2 years orso, and the people I go with as well, straight down the middle is good enough.

Something I forget to mention

At first I was thinking about dropping the small bag (on the right) but it's more convenient for keeping drinks and foods (saturday night is seven films in a row so I need a nightcap and a breakfast... and loads of energy drink).

My preliminary schedule:

* I got a ticket for this because Nic Cage looked so irresistably confused in the ads, but now common sense is starting to get even and tell me I should go see Alexandre Aja's Mirrors instead. I don't know if it's that great but at least it's the uncut version, not the R-rated cut. Bad planning from the festival staff to have 2 remakes playing at the same time but perhaps they just wanted to fuck with the audience. Wouldn't be the first time.

Also, more rational would be to see TGP on friday night instead of Quarantine, and Donkey Punch on Saturday in the place of TGP, but I a) wanted to save TGP for Sat night and b) am afraid of seeing a non-asian film rated nc-17 for sexual content. So, let's hope Quarantine isn't as bad as it seems (keeping in mind Rec is over-rated as well).

I'm a student, do you think I can afford to pay for hotel accommodation?

As usual, I'm sleeping on the floor of my friend's room (it's a room, not an appartment... he's a student, too

)

It doesn't do good to your back or ass (well, this time it's not much of an issue since it's just one night) but it's a part of the festival experience. I'm very grateful to him because free accommodation in Helsinki isn't something to take for granted...

I'm back

The Good: I ran like Forrest Gump and made it to the first train after the festival (the next one would've been a 3 hour wait... and after no night sleep and basically no place to go... you know how that would've been)

The Bad: The train was full and I could only get a seat for the first 2 hours (of 5)

The Ugly: Me. I look like I haven't slept since friday

Conclusion: See Robotrix on 35mm, at 8:45 am, after watching 6 other movies in a row. It's an EXPERIENCE.

Yeah. I had a ticket for the 13:06 train, because that one I was sure to catch. But the last film was scheduled to begin at 7:45 (8:45 summer time, the switch officially took place at 3am, but to keep it more simple the festival times were all summer time) and there was a train at 10:06.

Robotrix is of course only about 90 min, but with a full night film schedule there's bound to be delays, especially with the last film as there's competitions and stuff throughout the night *

But I made it to the 10:06 train, just couldn't get a seat reservation anymore at that point as the train was "full". My good luck was that I ran into an old friend in the train, and could pass some time chatting with him.

* Four volunteers playing an improvised post apocalypse play before Battletruck... with only one set piece - a cardboard bazooka... everybody yelling (in english with an accent) "Give Me Fuel, You Bastards!!!). To get into mood for I Drink Your Blood volunteers had to solve a WALL·E jigsaw. There was also a Donkey Puch competion but nobody volunteered, haha. And other stuff like that throughout the night.

Did anyone see Crocodile Dundee on TV earlier?

During the scene when Dundee shows his big knife to this crook who pulled a small knife on him, they cut the bit where Dundee cuts the guys coat with the knife.

I wonder why? They showed the knife. I wonder if it was precut and Channel 5 picked an old Master.

Well it says on the BBFC site that the film was cut by 23 seconds in 1987.

That scene is always cut when shown before the watershed. It was in the film and (cut) video versions as well as the "uncut" DVD.

That cut was made to remove drug references. Specifically Sue's explanation to Mick why people like taking Cocaine.

I've never watched it on DVD. I guess I must've seen it post watershed, would that be right? Why cut it though? You already see the knife and no one is actually cut anyway. The crooks clothes are cut, big deal.

I though "maybe I imagined" the scene but it was there in Channel 5's "Best Films of the 80s" last night (after 9pm).

I've never seen it uncut so didn't even know the explanation existed.

The knife bit has never been cut EXCEPT on TV.

The DVD is the PG-13 version with previous BBFC video cuts waived.

Glamourised use of a knife presumably. The PG-13 verison has been on TV but I can't remember which channel.

I've just tried a bit of blue stilton cheese for the first time, and I can't understand why people eat this mouldy shit lol - it tastes like an alcoholic drink I've had, but I can't think which. Eugh that cheese was overwhelming, tasted like colonies of bacteria were throwing up and shitting in my mouth (which they probably were to be honest).

So, anyone here like blue cheese?

I dont like solid cheese that much. I can eat tiny bits maybe but I prefer melted/toasted cheese.
