Other than presumably it's now anamorphic why fucking bother? Talk about falling from a great height.

I cannot understand why they'd allow this to happen? Especially on the dub front. I'm thankful Mei Ah Remasted it and released "My Father Is a Hero" as an SE a few years back. I'll be sticking with that one.

When is The Bodyguard from Beijing coming? Thanks. I hope that's not dub only too. There is NO watchable version of that one (maybe in France).

Is Righting Wrongs/Above the Law decent? It looks good.

The DVD of Above the Law from DD is ok. Colour is rather pink but anamorphic, uncut and with original mono sound its a good dvd on the whole

Yeah... RW/ATL was back when DD more or less had most of their s#it straight. It seems like if DD re-releases a previously Dimension-owned film (Supercop, Fist of Legend, "The Enforcer"... ugh), we're screwed. This being said, I have absolutely no hope for Bodyguard From Beijing or Fong Sai Yuk... and in the unlikely event that they manage to regain Drunken Master II... it'll be Legend of Drunken Master with no Cantonese, and still missing the ending, and English only opening and end credits. *sigh* Supercop was especially inexcusable due to the fact they had a perfectly good print from Fortune Star they could use... JUST LIKE THE FIRST TWO POLICE STORY FILMS! Ugh, whatever...

At least PS and PS2 were uncut. Hopefully it's only the Dimension films they're planning to fuck up. Not exactly a small thing but at least it's something.

For me MFIAH is there worst yet, a film with English dub only isn't even watchable. It will be interesting to hear what excuse Bey comes up for this one. I more meant the film though, is it any good?

For English-speakers, an Austrian DVD of 'My Father Is A Hero' surpassing all versions (except the extras on DD) will be out (hopefully in a few months) with:

Overhauled subtitles with new translations (replacing the old bullshit).
Genuine Cantonese mono (Mei Ah was a downmix).
An extra or two (one not discovered about until recently).
Progressive video.

DD's DVD appears to be using the existing master, but adds 'enhancements' in the form of pinking and (what appears to be) edge enhancement. So really, the older DVD looks better in comparison, but misses out the extras. Dimension's transfer doesn't seem really good, whilst Mei Ah's looks be too vibrant occasionally.

Aside from the pinking, the only problem with 'Righting Wrongs' DD is that the subtitles are corrections of the previous ones (with some bits not making sense) and not a re-translation like Tai Seng's release.

'Police Story 3' (and perhaps 'My Father') may have been the way it is down to legal issues, but Bey's blog still hints that DD went for the cut version deliberately. If they had the option, they should have branched the uncut scenes.

Is it so the 'western market' doesnt get scared off by all those 'scary yellow people' or something!?

It's a way of 'filling in colour' to pale skin, only it's done obnoxiously by an amateur. Sometimes it's not necessary to tamper with it either.

When has DD ever branched uncut scenes to a cut version?

Hardly anyone does and it shocks me, given how great it is. There must be some narrow-minded DVD authors.

With that said, I dont know why you would even entertain the idea that DD would ever consider it.

Lets try to calculate 1 + 2 = 4. Dimension's rights were transfered to DD, right? What does this mean in practice? Probably that:

a) DD isn't paying much or anything for the rights
b) DD is getting very cheap or free prints from Dimension
c) DD has no contract with the HK studios that own these films

Alternative: pay HK studios, deal with all the wrong audio tracks they send, solve other problems, and make great releases. But would this increase the sales so much that it would cover all the expenses. Or, is it actually more profitable to release subpar dvds that have low sales and even lower production costs?

Pure speculation.

Fan-bloody-tastic. What went so wrong with My Father is a Hero? Maybe loads complained.

There is no decent version of FSY or FSY2 AFAIK (except maybe Japan), so fingers crossed these are acceptable.
