Nice find Hung. It's from a different publisher (Tae Won) than the FA/CE set (Alto Media), Brad. So little chance of a boxset with all 4.bradavon wrote:Thanks Hung. I'm not surprised this coming.
It also means I'll wait for a box set now instead of getting the Chungking Express/Days of being Wild 2 Disc set. ATGB doesn't interest me to own twice but if I could replace my R1 box set with 4 of the 6 in new Masters I'd be interested in doing that.

That's too bad. They did a good job with the video and such on the CE/FA disks, so I would have had high hopes if the same company would have released Days of Being Wild.EvaUnit02 wrote:Nice find Hung. ...and like Brad, I'm not all that interested in Tears either. I just want a good quality version of Days.
I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

This set is from the same company actually. Don't always go by the information on one site, the names of Korean companies/subsidaries and what nams actually appear on DVD's change often (though not in this instance, YA lists Alto for both). And don't ignore the fact that boths sets look identical.
Very much doubt there'll be a box of all four but they are all available individually so why not just buy the ones you want?

Why do you say that? It would make sense.Lourdes wrote:Very much doubt there'll be a box of all four

Review of R2UK Eros release from Artificial Eye. (inc. comparison caps to MeiAh release)
http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=63821
Sounds like it has the transfer of any release. This will be the one that I'll pick up.
Apparently the Antonioni section was filmed in English sync-sound and has been DUBBED into Italian like the R1, but I don't care. I'm only interested in the WKW and Sodenbergh shorts.

I didn't notice that. I'll stick with my HK DVD then, even though the PQ isn't the best. It's acceptable though. I'm not convinced it was shot snyc-sound English or if it was their grasp of the language is weak to say the least.EvaUnit02 wrote:Apparently the Antonioni section was filmed in English sync-sound and has been DUBBED into Italian like the R1, but I don't care. Isn't the sex from that short cut on the R1???

NO English subs on the new Remastered DOBW and ATGB:

Yupgi wrote:Nope. No English subtitles on either film.
I watched both movies last night with Korean subtitles (as it's my first language) but I checked after reading back here and there don't seem to be english subtitles for either DVD.
Bad news I guess. Please don't hate the messenger though!
EDIT: Yes I have the previous set which DID contain Englsih subtitles. My guess is that someone in America wants to release these two new re-mastered versions exclusively.

The best ATGB/DOBW DVDs with English subs look to be the new Tartan versions:
http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCompar ... rsgoby.htm
http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCompar ... ngwild.htm
Quite a lot sharper, but seeing as they're only in a box set it means little to me PLUS they're really only a little better so in other words not worth upgrading IMO.
I think the box set has ITMFL and 2046, neither of which I remotely want. The French ITMFL and Australian 2046 Tin are fine/better. They'd have to be released separately for me to consider them.
Unless you find it funny most people here won't want them any more?

How is it cool they don't have subs? Granted you don't need English subs but I fail to see how it's remotely "cool"???HungFist wrote:Cool. I'm getting these.

The DVDs I'm talking about ARE the Korean DVDs. There are no HK Remastered DVDs of:
1. As Tears Go By - Combo with DOBW or separately - No English subs
2. Days of Being Wild - Combo with ATGB or separately - No English subs
3. Chungking Express - Combo with FA or separately - English subs
4. Fallen Angels - Combo with CE or separately - English subs
In short it will be a wee while yet before Remastered DOBW and ATGB DVDs come. I did hear ages ago HK Remastered DVDs were getting released but nothing has surfaced.
For now the pick either the Tartan Re-issue (only in a box set though) or R1 DVDs.

There is such a mess of WKW releases. This is my take:
For CE/FA the R3K's are easily the best releases for their superior audio. These are R2J ports by the way.
ITMFL is easy too, the European releases based on TF1's. Crit has some unique extras.
With 2046 you can't go wrong with a R2* or R4 release. Differences are in the extras.
Ashes of Time. Well the R2FR has decent PQ but if you want the full thing you need the R0HK Mei Ah. I still remember rumours about the R2J (no subs) having better PQ than the Mei Ah, and that's the full cut.
Happy Together. Previously the R1 was the best English friendly release, but the R2FR looked better and the R1 had a colour sequence in B&W. Now we know about the R3HK set which seems to have good PQ and audio but it's £100. I'd bank on AV, especially audio being better than the R2FR. Now if only there was a normal release.
ATGB/DOBW. I can safely say that the R3K's (R2J ports) will be best AV wise without needing to look. But the new Tartans are the best English-friendly releases. And there may be a possibility that their stereo audio comes from newer masters since they had to acquire the correct Cantonese audio.
