How hard is it to check if a disc is anamorphic before making spurious claims?
"But Donnie Yen doesn't do himself any favors. The guy's head is as big as the Goodyear blimp and it's infuriating that he's such an obviously talented action star that he can't be ignored. Throughout his commentary and interviews he refers to the movie as his own film, giving the impression that he made editing, script and cinematography decisions himself and he's patronizing towards the other actors, talking about what a legend Sammo is out of one side of his mouth while calling him slow and difficult to make look good out of the other. The honesty is appreciated, and he's got lots of interesting things to say, but his confidence comes across as arrogance and stands in stark contrast to the humility and graciousness of the rest of the cast."
Donnie may be telling the truth but as an actor and filmmaker he isn't fit to lick Sammo's boots. His head has always been swollen and I'm talking from way back. His ego outweighs his talent and always has.

Yup I like Donnie on screen, but I cannot name that many classic films he has been in thats for sure. He may be fit and able to do a lot, but that doesnt ever make his shine as a perfect actor and great on screen star. Sammo seems the oposite, and always watchable even when in a turd.

Donnie seems to make 1 or 2 great movies every 10 years orso.
I have mixed opinions about the guy. He's a talented screenperformer when it comes to martial arts... and so I like seeing him fight... but pretty much everything else he does (choreography, directing, acting, etc) he is only mediocre at, at best.

About his personality, for me it's hard to judge. You hear both stories about him being very bigheaded, and then other stories from castmembers (like on the iron monkey 2nd disk) that he was pretty nice and stuff...
However, he doesnt seem to have all that many friends in the industry, so something is obviously wrong with the dude.

Yes, he's got a big head.
He's been in some good movies, though:

-OUATIC 2.
-Dragon Inn.
-Iron Monkey.
-In the Line of Duty 4.
-Tiger Cage 1 & 2.
-Wing Chun.
-Butterfly and Sword.
-Hero.
-Twins Effect 2.
-SPL.
-Seven Swords.
-Dragon Tiger Gate.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Just saw Wing Chun last night. I had seen it before but it had been a while. It's a nice movie but not great. Donnie isnt all that special in it TBH.

I thought he was good in Iron Monkey and In The Line of Duty 4...
He's OK in Hero but it's only a minor part. SPL was good.
Seven Swords is supposedlya mess as they've cut a lot of it out, and Dragon Tiger Gate is supposedly pretty crappy.
OUATIC2 is a decent movie, but it's too bad he and Jet only fight using weapons, not unarmed.

Surely if you dont like a film, in your eyes its a "bad" film, no? If you mean you can appreciate Hero is well made etc even if you don't like it, fair do's :D I get it.

And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers.
And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Im a big Donnie Yen fan, thought SPL really was a return to form for him but having seen Dragon Tiger Gate perhaps i was wrong. As far as HK comic book movies go, id take storm riders and a man called hero over DTG any day.

Donnie left his kicking boots at the door in DTG, while his fights are still entertaining they lack his trademark style. Its left to Nic Tse(and his stunt double) to provide the fight highlights in DTG. Yuen Wah was entertaining as always.

The film is deviod of any kind of script and the acting is terrible. Shawn Yue is by far the worst offender in the acting department and by far the weakest screen fighter, perhaps it was that daft silver wig and his ultra camp hat, but every line is cringe inducing.

Ive watched it 3 times and i really wanted to like it but i thought it was poor. Soundtrack was cool though.
