My friend is studying in Cheng Du (China) these months, and since me and my girlfriend will go to Hong Kong next month, and probably stay there for 7-8 weeks, we are also thinking about maybe visiting him for a few days or maybe a short week in Cheng Du, so I was looking on youtube for some clips about the city, and came across this very nice little video, by Zhang Yimou.

My girlfriend just booked our tickets to Hong Kong, and I wont leave end of April, but early May untill early July

So that's about 9 weeks or something

Another plus is that I will be able to play GTA4 when it comes out, end of april

A big negative is that I will probably miss the European Championship. It's a good thing Holland is compeltely crap under Van Basten, so I'll only miss 3 matches before they're sent back home, but still... I never missed a final before I before

So that's too bad. Maybe we can rent an appartment that has a TV or something.
Renting a hotel for a month is about 700 euro I believe, so maybe we'll do that, for 2 months (maybe get a special price...)

Decided i have to undergo a huge clearout of a number of my dvds.i have way too many.don't know how i'm going to decide what's going though and i see the ebay prices have plummeted badly

How many do you have? I'm guessing 1000. How many do you want to sell?

I did the same twice last year and I made about £250-300. I sold about 200. I only got a few quid for a lot of them but the money soon started adding up.

I sold about 12-15 LEs or LE type ones too, like digi-packs. I wouldn't worry too much about the low cost per item as it soon starts to turn into lots of cash. It's very time consuming though, even if you use roughly the same template and eBay Turbo Lister. Which is a must if you're uploading lots.

I took Mark's advice and tried to be as ruthless as I absolutely could, when you have stupid amounts you cannot afford to be a completest, even if means splitting as series of films up.

I listed 105 in one go, it took 3-4 days of listing them on Turbo Lister then when I was ready I clicked Upload and they all went live at same time. It was a beautiful thing

. I'll be listing about 25-30 soon, now I can shift my DVDs I also have on HD.

if i include my family's dvds probably nearer 1300.i also need to cut down on buying new stuff because i find myself in a situation where i want to rewatch some old classics (Dollar Trilogy for example) but haven't the time because i'm watching films i haven't seen. it's a vicious circle really.i'm looking to maybe half my collection eventually,not all in one go.for example i was a jackie chan completist but i've asked myself am i really going to watch tosh like the medallion and the myth anytime soon?so a number of his titles are on the way out !

My criteria
a) I love the film, and am willing to defend it in a fight
b) the film is a part of a sub-collection (if I'm for example collecting movies from the director)
c) the dvd features some extra / feature that I want to keep

If none of those requirements are fulfilled, the dvd flies out of my collection. If nobody buys it, it goes to trash bin. Owning a dvd you don't need / like is shameful.

I often find myself in the same position. Sadly I rarely re-watch films. In some way it's nutts to buy films in the fist place.

Exactly! There's certainly no need to keep tosh.

1300 down to 650 is some hard task. Choosing about 150 was easy but the last 50 was so hard.

Me too, although if I cannot sell them I give them away. I've only had to throw a couple away, old HK DVD crap.

I don't keep films based on extras any more. I cannot think of any discs I'd keep just for the extras. I even sell extras laden discs now for better barebones ones. King King an being example. I've no real interest in keeping all the 3 Disc SE extras.

The trouble for us lot is because we're all generally open minded about films it's so much harder to get rid. Life would be so much easier if I only watch Hollywood mainstream, like most.

I ripped my collection apart last year. Cut it by 3/5. I probably got rid of a few I shouldn't have (which inevitibly happens... lol)

I have been selling tonnes the last year or so, but I still have wayyy to many

must be over 2000 and I am still buying a fair few (HD esspecially). I am a dick for not stopping. Still at least the prices now are fine, I pay little over a few pound now for any standard dvd which they are well worth in anyone life surley?

But selling them is the hardest thing to do, I have sold maybe £2000 worth in the last year, mostly Limited Editions and stuff, still have many to go. I am thinking of giving many away to friends, as hell I cannot be arsded to sell some.

I have gone off Ebay bigtime, they are scum now as are many buyers who are just idiots who need shooting. After I lost a set costing £150 last year when selling to america and the insurance would not pay up, it kind of is a kick in the teeth as basically the postal people are scumlords! they do anything not to pay up, the postage alone for that was £45!!!!!!! and yet they screwed me out of any payout.

Forums are the best thing for me still.

It aint cash, its the time spent trying to sell things for a pound. Esspecially as many on Ebay never ever sell, even for pennies

the new fees and paypal basically eat all the cash away, and trying to sell a film where theres 300 copies all on ebay all the same low price, well your stuffed as everyone owns it.

forums are best as well no evil fees.

You're right, some don't. There's a definite element of luck. I've listed some, they didn't sell, I re-listed them and they did.

I gave about 10 to my Dad's girlfriend, she then gave them to a charity shop. There was some good films/DVDs in the pile but no one wanted them.

Agreed, it can be tricky then. Yours can stand out though if you upload a proper listing. For the £1-2 jobs I just put one sentence though.

If I was selling exciting dvds its fine, I can make cash, but I am selling lots of titles which everyone in the world owns its hard

as I upgraded many to HD and really not many want the Bourne films, region 3 etc..

But I am about to try and sell a lot in one go, if that goes well then more will follow.
