thing is when Romero claims to have seen nearly all Jackie's films i believe him,he'll watch anything that moves. you on the other hand join in by agreeing with him when i doubt you've seen 10% of Jackie Chan's movies...and the ones you have seen you've probably forgotten what happens in them anyway

Jackies films are all normally great. There are some that are only good ok or terrible, but most of his catalogue is great

Karate-Robo Zaborgar (Japan, 2011) – 4/5
Noboru Iguchi continues drifting towards mainstream audiences with his biggest budgeted film to date. A full blooded tokusatsu adventure, Karate-Robo Zaborgar mixes fast action, transforming robots, non-stop gags, and pitch perfect soundtrack. Lackluster editing and unfunny jokes of his past works are gone, although the second half drags a bit. Despite being a family friendly movie, Iguchi is still his recognizable self: every female in the film wears iron bikini, and usually their asses are filled with deadly weapons. It’s fun film for kids and fathers, and Iguchi’s best movie by a mile. “ZABORGAR, GO!”

I think Jackie only has a handfull of 'very good' movies.
Drunken Master 2, Dragons Forever, and Crime Story are the ones that spring to mind.

Then you have a bunch which have some very good scenes in them, but are mediocre/poor otherwise...

... and then you have a whole shitload of mediocre movies, where even the action-scenes aren't all that special. Those were mostly made after Drunken Master 2.

For a guy that was always claiming he wanted to be 'the real deal' ('Only 1 jackie chan, no blue screen!'), he sure sold out quickly when he had the chance to crap around in Hollywood in mediocre movies.

I really wish he would actually listen to what his real fans want him to make (new Drunken Master, more 3 brothers, new Project A, etc etc), instead of the choices he's made instead.

His new movies seem OK though. Cameo in Shaolin, and he has that war movie coming up...

I was thinking about extracting this stuff into a topic of its own, but now I'm thinking it should go to "Your English Sucks" topic instead :D

I won't do anything yet, but once you guys finish I think it's better to extract it into a topic of its own. No one can find it here, and you're gonna start the same discussion again in 6 months anyway... :D

All this talk did spark me to look through some older Asian films, think I will get a lot done.

In The Line Of Duty - 3.25 out of 5

It is an enjoyable action film, but nowadays it feels wrong in many places. The silly comedy acting, unrealistic beyond words in all regards to cast. No matter what happens the acting feels wrong in every way. Its tone is all over the place, the music, editing and general feel of the film is just so different to the best action films of today. Yes it is flawed, like most action from Asia (especially older ones), but it’s a fun little watch and it has some good fighting and stunts and no matter how goofy they act the cast pull it of most of the time.

Does that make a great film? Not at all. Compared to something new by Donnie Yen (Flashpoint) this feels so old and decrepit.

Yeah totally haha, I swear Asians cast the ugliest Western people they can find just to make themselves feel good.

Not comparing the two but when I saw Flashpoint I actually laughed through most of the film at how chronically corny it was. The exploding Chicken in the Microwave scene especially made me howl with laughter...and it wasn't even a full moon that night. It's purely some great action sequences strung together with a totally limp story (like the 'worst' of the 80s/90s HK movies. Prince of the Sun, Project S, ITLOD3 etc)

I've toyed with the idea of getting the uk Blu-Ray but I really only think I'd watch the action scenes and the extras
