2nd serial featuring the dynamic duo is a step up in budget from the 1943 version,complete with new cast but again the story is weak and struggles to stretch to the 15 episodes. great for nostalgia value though.

Seagal's debut actioner gets the blu-ray treatment and results in a solid if unspectacular transfer.the film itself is certainly one of Seagal's better efforts and worth seeing.
An excellent film, but disturbing and hard to watch at times. I'll admit I've never really seen it properly all the way through, I did actually feel sorry for Alex in places towards the end when he comes back "reformed" and apparently good but is still punished and treated like shit despite serving his time. He gets beaten up by his former friends, his parents abandon him etc.
You'll never look at Beethoven the same way again (though the electronic version of Ode To Joy isn't my bag).
Re: Clockwork Orange, I heard the American edition of the book omits a chapter compared to the British version. In the UK version Alex doesn't switch back and decides to be good - maybe the film is based more on the US version of the book?
Flat teen slasher is hampered by an unlikeable cast. Amber Heard is the title character,she's hot but totally devoid of charisma.
Still watchable I found, but the praise it got in certain places I was lost by. I only paid £3 for the Blu Ray so I liked it for that cash. Still not sure if I will remember it in a months time, even THAT ending.
Turkish Star Wars (Turkey, 1982) – 1/5
This legendary Turkish film follows a logic of its own, completely unknow to man. Unfortunately it's also a heavily over-packed mess that is very boring whenever it’s not brilliant, which is quite often. The film runs 90 minutes, but feels more like three films. And indeed, it is three films. The soundtrack is from Raiders of the Lost Ark, the monsters are from The Magic Sword, and the special effects are from Star Wars, presented vertically streched because the source print was anamorphic widescreen the Turks couldn't handle it when their own camera was recording 1.33:1 footage.
Very good drama-thriller from the indefatigable Clint Eastwood managed to be more involved and expansive than I expected storywise (I tried to avoid spoiler reviews) and also much darker (in its own way this as grim as The Silence of the Lambs). Jolie proved once and for all that she is a most capable actress and more than just a pair of, er, lips. Recommended.

And that's why the above sounds like totally valid cinema!
Kevin Bacon morphs into Charlie Bronson for very dark, ultra-violent vigilante-revenge thriller. Better than your average B-movie killfest but not quite the deep drama it could have been. It pushes the right buttons though. One thing that annoyed me was the way it was suggested that it was Bacon's fault for starting "a war". Er, no, it was the fault of the scum who cut his son's throat. Did I miss something?
A snapshot of the 70's this is an excellent drama and is very much a film of it's time.Travolta is excellent but must be the oldest 19 year old in the world The BD is an absolute revelation,it looks and sounds fantastic,paramount have done a sterling job on this.

Excellent thriller with some great performances.Still think Cox is a better Lecter than Hopkins though.Comparing the BD to my old Criterion dvd is like night and day but still this MPEG encoded transfer won't blow you away.Solid but unspectacular i'd say.
I take it you don't have the MGM or Fox DVD of Silence of the Lambs either? Comparing the BD with the Criterion, it's obvious what to expect. I'll be getting this one.

i actually had the older MGM but had never watched it,hadn't seen the film since watching the murky Criterion version a few years back.
Thanks. I'm no expert either but Top Gun (based on captures) has so much DNR it's hideous.
SOTL is still my favourite Lecter film, although Manhunter comes a very close second. The other two are tosh (Hannibal) to passable (Red Dragon). The less said about that prequel film the better.

Now this is what an action-revenge thriller should be. Balls out violence and a bad mofo performance from Liam Neeson. No flab, no liberal moralising bullshit. The filmmakers set a goal and head directly for it at speed. Charlie Bronson and Bruce Willis roled into one for the millenium. I rented this, but am gonna buy it ASAP.
THE WARRIORS (Theatrical Cut)
Liked the opening credits sequence, but film dipped for a while, before I got back into it. Too uneven, but the atmosphere was great, as was the use of music. Not gritty realism, as I expected it to be, more comic. Not sure if that's a good thing or not? Worth a look if you haven't seen it already - but not a true classic.
