I Robot - 3.5/5

I enjoyed this a lot. Surprisingly thought-provoking and intelligent for an "action" film. Will Smith is a likeable lead, as usual.

Good stuff

Though I hear lots of liberties were taken with the source novel....

A very nice little vampire film, with a great cast and some interesting ideas behind it, but the cast pull it all off and it works on the back of them. If you like the classic Near Dark see this as it a lot like it, but with a sexier younger cast, and room for a sequel which would be nice.

I like the film for some reason, not too complex and a little too rushed, but its fun and the cast are fun too. It has some luveryl Music too and Carrie looks great in the shower.

Not as good as I remember, but still its a cracker and the training really works well, Gordon oozes class and he carries the film well on his small shoulders. The action is great and is just a very enjoyable experience and has plenty of feel god factor to it.

[b]Switchblade Romance/Haute Tension[/b]

I haven't got the time or inclination to do any sort of review/detailed thoughts right now, suffice to say that it was easily one of the best slasher/horror films that I've seen in ages. I think everyone should see it.

It pisses over all over Hollywood's attempts to do retro old skool style horror flicks (e.g. Wrong Turn, TCSM remake) from a great height.
There aren't actually that many killings, but each one is pretty strong stuff. The sound effects are fantastic in this film. Cecile De France also does a great job with her performance as the main protagonist Marie. Excellent casting. As for the much debated twist that a lot of people have huge issues with, I didn't have a problem once I got my head around it, and also read a few threads on the net.

I watched the Thai R3, English dubbed, uncut version. The picture quality is top notch, and the sound equally as good. The dub isn't anywhere as bad as it might have been. Not very distractive. Not bad for a few quid, but I will be getting the Optimum UK R2 SE for sure.

Pity you couldnt watch the actual film as made then, I wont piss on a film with a dub, thats why I have waited soo long for a real proper version.

Far cheaper than 11.99 I havent payed that much or a UK dvd in ages and never will ever

its wayyy to much. it will be in sales for 8 quid in 4 months time, best to wait I say I wont waste all my cash, I get a deal or I wait.

Today it was released in German theatres. It got a wide release here and so I went to watch it.

I'd call it a mixture of "A Chinese Ghost Story", "Bichunmoo", "Mr. Vampire" and "Encounters of the Spooky Kind". Although the action wasn't exactly top-notch, the film stands out with its great music and storytelling.

A film that is at turns funny, sad, romantic and intriguing and a joy to watch. I really enjoyed it.

Jim Carrey is excellent, showing he really has moved on from his rubber-faced physical comedy days of Ace Ventura. Kate Winslet isnt bad either and its hard to belive Kirsten Dunst is only 19/20 years old.

A great original twist to the romantic comedy genre, with plot elements that normally you would think belong in science fiction/fantasy, which make it interesting.

Superb film.

One of the most underated films ever! it deserved an Oscar (not that I beleve in them pieces of shit, but it was better than all the films that won!) and its just a great film that no one has seen! acting and the settings and atmostphere are superb and and film giving a starring role to JEWEL gets my respect as I love her! I want more!

[b]Underworld Unrated Extended edition 4 out of 5[/b]

Well I watched this last new Years eve, so stuck this new cut on this year.

Still a beautifull film with some cracking ideas and some amazing shots of Georgous Kate flying in slow mo with her shiney Bottom catching the light perfectly

cannot beat that.

The new cut, well I didnt notice much at all, in fact I couldnt tell any for the 1st hour or so, but the bits I did notice were a sex scene with no breasts! and some back story for a few people, but nothing big at all so its pretty much the same film as the theatrical cut.

So all in all the same film, which isnt a bad thing as I really like the film and Kate has found her job for life making sequels to this corker! as long as she shoots with 2 guns and wears them damn sexy outfits they cannot go wrong.

I just hope the sequel out at the end of the year is as good as this, fingers crossed.

[b]Little Shop of Horrors (1986) - 4/5[/b]

Very enjoyable musical black comedy based on the 80's Broadway show (which was in turn based on the no-budget movie by Roger Corman). Rick Moranis and Levi Stubbs (of soul group The Four Tops) in particular are perfectly cast as Seymour and Audrey II respectively, and Steve Martin makes a very funny cameo as a sadistic, Elvis look-alike dentist.
The songs (by Alan Menken and the late lamented Howard Ashman) are great, they have a somewhat 60's feel to them which befits the piece though as thats when the film is set). Highlights are "Downtown" and "Mean Green Mother (From Outer Space)".
Top fun

The transfer and sound are generally good though I did see some very noticeable marks or specs on the print a few times, the DVD was brand new so I assumed it was the print. Oh well.

Not too bad, Aaron Kwok and Sammo have decent turns here as the boxer and trainer respectively and the love story is touching, but I thought I was watching Rocky at times (Well, an HK version of it anyway), particularly during the closing scenes...

It was a bit clichéd IMO.
Hell, even one of the major characters in the film is called Rocky Chan

(Aaron Kwok's girlfriend's brother).

awful, mess, makes no sense, Hollywood making a Legend into a joke. dreadful acting and lines. No cohesion. Doesn't add up and the "Knights" appear to be anything other than talented.

I used to hate this, but decided to give it a go on dvd, and its actually quite funny.

My fave characters are The Bear, David Blaine ("Can you feel the magic coming" LOL), and Elton John ("I'll bum you all into next week!!!!). LMAO. Craaaaiiiggggg Daaaaviiid is also funny once you get into the character and his quirks and idiosynchracies (sp?). "Can you give me a Reeeewiind?" LMAO.

Léon: Director's Cut - 5/5

The extra footage makes the film even better and turns Léon from a good film into a superb one. There is more focus on the relationship between Léon and Mathilda for example which makes it more poignant.

Desperado - 3.5/5

Good fun film, decent follow up to El Mariachi, though not as good as I remember. The plot is paper thin but Salma Hayek smoulders

, and the action is good. I like Steve Buscemi's funny scene at the beginning and Quentin's silly joke

Insomnia (2002) - 4/5.. WARNING - possible spoilers

Chris Nolan does a very good job on this remake of the 1997 Norweigan film. It loses nothing by transferring the story setting from Norway to Alaska. However, I think I preferred some of the darker, seedier aspects of the original in a few scenes, which were seemingly toned down here.

*SPOILER*

For example the scene where the main cop in the original molests the teenage girl in his car by putting his hand up her skirt (ironic when he accuses the author of shagging her friend in the original), and also showing he is not the model cop etc... is missing in this remake.

*SPOILER END*

However, the performances of both Al Pacino and Robin Williams were outstanding and even better than the lead actors in the original, IMO. Williams especially is pretty creepy, a real change from other films he would star in where he would just play.. well, himself.

Great film.
