Watched this at the theatre a dew days ago. Would have been a 4/5 if the ending wasn't so unrealistic.

I can take all manner of violence but medical proceedures do gross me out I admit. E.R is harder to watch than Reservoir Dogs!

First Love: The Litter On The Breeze 4/5

Who would've thought that aggrivating comic Eric Kot, who directed arguably the most abnormal episode of 4 Faces Of Eve would go on to log a scattered yet emotionally felt arthouse experiment? Frenetic but with a sly sense of humour towards the artform (Kot appears in audio- and visual commentary at times, even telling us that certain moments doesn't actually mean anything).

My Vengeance is tough to stomach but is a kids cartoon compared to Koma, where the latter is a hell of a lot more explicit. But Vengeance was a miles better film.

Pretty bad film, unfortunetly. I was looking forward to this simply as a good mindless time that made reference to numerous horror films from the 80s. Its hard to explain why it didn't meet these expectations, but it just didn't. The attempts at humor are so embarrasingly unfunny (exept one scene right at the beginning), and everything is just lame. Not a very specific review i know... but i would not recommend bothering with this one, even if you are a fan of the genre.

Not quite as good as Seven Samurai, but when you put Kurosawa and Mifune together, you get one helluva good samurai film!

Even though I'm not squeamish, I agree that Koma is a rather mediocre film. I did a full review of it on the old BnB. The text is probably somewhere on my hard drive still, if you're interested.

Very much likely but watching A Family Affair yesterday, it's clear therefore who is the most sensitive of the two. AFA is as annoying as you would expect coming from Dean and it's a drama!

Kot has more down to earth emotions on display in First Love and a genuine sense of humour.

Aye go on. While you're at it, could you please explain the title? No one was ever in a coma in that movie. Also if you could avoid using the "K" word, that'd be nice of you.

Typically conflicted Hong Kong cinema product of the 80s, executing many things broad but with the era came some charm to hold one's attention. Now, debuting director Ringo Lam (who replaced Leung Po-Chi who reportedly was the original director) grips us quite well during the final reel as it takes a detour into supernatural darkness. Makes it fairly significant in a way.

Donnie Darko: Director's Cut 4/5

Well against my principals, I decided to rewatch a film. Sort of - I've only ever seen the theatrical version of Donnie Darko.

There are so many changes that it felt like I was watching a whole new movie. Some changes were good, others I felt were not necessary (unless I'm wrong and they are actually integral to the plot). The theatrical version was a thought-provoking, eerie experience. I had my own interpretation of what director Kelly was trying to portray. Now that I've seen the director's cut, Kelly has narrowed down the list of possible conclusions but at the same time, has raised additional question marks.

It was still fantastic to watch and I noticed a lot more humour this time round. I'd maybe consider the theatrical version the "true" version, with the director's cut being a nice wee add-on. But like I said, my original analysis of the film's events is now superceded due to this extended version.

It's like arguing over a David Lynch film, only to have Lynch himself say "you're all wrong, what my film totally means is this...."

Phantom The Submarine (Korea - 1999) : 4,75/5

HELL YEAH !!

I had great expectations for this film from Min Byung-Chun (director of Natural City). Phantom the Submarine features lots of claustrophobic scenes, subtle music cues and great acting from Choi Min-Su (Sword in The Moon) and Jung Wu-Song (the slave from Musa).

Turns out it's the best submarine film I've ever seen.

The Myth 3/5

there was way too much hype for this, everyone was telling me "you gotta watch it, its awesome"

the story was ok, the special effects looked so fake most of the time. the fighting was medicore, the only great great part about it was the scenery and the mausoleum at the end. the ending was weird and didnt make much sense.

it was one of those film you watch and then at the ned wonder "what did i just watch" there was nothing amazingly memorable about it apart from the ending. and the only partly good fight in the film was in the factory thing.

ok as a JC Film goes but yeah dont like it much. the horses were awesome tho

Interesting, I gave The Myth the same score as you (3/5 or maybe 3.5/5) but I really enjoyed it

As you say shame about the ending though.

lol,

i thought at the end in the mausoleum when jackie was laid
unconcious and the princess floated in, it was sooo cheesy, like a bad ghost story

the battle scenes were ok too, but just to average. lol

also why do most of jackies new movies have the annoying little sidekick? its like a bad habit he picked up from the US!.

want to watch 2046 but working with a 14" screen right now and i hate it! argh so small, no way will i watch a movie on here! its doing my head in just browsing the web. stupid monitor. the writing is so tiny lol evil!!

Watched again after quite a while and not as good as I remembered... maybe that is because I knew the "twist (with a twist (within a twist))", slow to start, and the pace doesnt really pick up after... but then memento bares repeated watching and you know what is going to happen!

If you havent seen it definitely worth a look and is a good follow up to the previous CUBE, which I liked a lot, plus it's got Lucy Liu

I recommend saving up for a 32" widescreen CRT TV. Very cheap (by consumer electronic standards) these days for a new one in NZ, can't imagine that it'll be any different in pomland where you are.

I really don't know why this should be funny, but it is

Maybe its the surreal observations? The slightly stoned delivery? I loved the bit about Argos ("The laminated book of dreams!"

), the revelation he auditioned for Gimli in LOTR, and the songs he makes up are inspired, including a bitter love song that has the line "The duck lies shredded in a pancake, drowning in the hoi sin sauce of your lies" or comparing the BBC news theme to a rave/techno song - my favourite was probably the hilarious spoof of Kraftwerk ("Ja! Das Hokey Kokey!"
