@ Hung: Check out page 2, it looks like an improvement. You didn't expect to to be perfect surely? The DVDs never were. Thanks btw.
I wouldn't take it seriously. It's a pre-order price and doesn't even show up on other online re-tailors. I suspect Play guessed.Markgway wrote:£16.99(!). You can get the LE for that or less.

The BD capture looks pretty dark.

Re: BATTLE ROYALE SE BR/DVD
BR looks about as lacklustre as I expected, I've never quite understood why people seem to laud Arrow Video like they're one of the most dependably high-quality distributors out there, personally I've not seen anything from them that has blown me away as far as HD presentation goes, they usually produce discs with solid audio/video and go above and beyond when it comes to supplemental material and packaging.
With that in mind I think people need to accept that short of an extensive remaster, Battle Royale is not going to look like much in High Definition. Japanese films are not made to the same standard as Hollywood production and it seems the film stock and lenses they often use can be really detrimental to clarity, you've only got to see Shout! Factory's BD of Audition to see that, it's soft and grainy as hell and that was from the inter-negative! Of course, BR was a higher budget film than Audition but I doubt it looks all that better.

Not a massive improvement, but it'll do for me.

Battle Royale's "Battle" for a US Release
http://jasongray.blogspot.com/2010/12/b ... lease.html
Just as I thought, it was Toei that previously refused to sell the film to USA.

Re: BATTLE ROYALE SE BR/DVD
It's hard to believe Battle Royale is a decade old. From that link:HungFist wrote:Battle Royale's "Battle" for a US Release

"European sales for territories such as France, Spain, Italy and Scandinavia will take longer as Toei must evaluate whether current 2D rights holders are willing to give the 3D version a release."
Interesting. So you cannot get the 2D version, without also releasing the 3D one.
"Arrow Films is planning a small theatrical release of Battle Royale 3D in London. Arrow already held UK rights to the 2D version and will release deluxe DVD and Blu-ray box sets next month."
Why just London?

Re: BATTLE ROYALE SE BR/DVD
I think he's saying the problem is with someone already owning distibution rights to Battle Royale in these countries... so you can't sell the same film again to other distributors, and the old ones may not be interested in buying the same film twice just for 3D upgrade.bradavon wrote:HungFist wrote:

Ah maybe. Tough then, they can just release BR 2D on BD.HungFist wrote:I think he's saying the problem is with someone already owning distibution rights to Battle Royale in these countries... so you can't sell the same film again to other distributors, and the old ones may not be interested in buying the same film twice just for 3D upgrade.
That wouldn't bother me. It will hopefully mean a decent American BD of the original. I was gonna say it wouldn't be as violent but violent B movies are the in thing at the moment.Markgway wrote:"Anchor Bay Films EVP Kevin Kasha had been longing for the chance to pick up Battle Royale and its remake rights since his stints at Miramax Home Entertainment and New Line."

Would you say it's worth the upgrade over one of the better DVDs?
