Can anyone else confirm Flash Point is indeed region free - pretty much every other site I've seen states it's Region A only - except the one post in this thread!

Salty has confirmed that it works on a UK PS3, I believe.
I don't know anything else at the moment. :?

EDIT:
Several people have confirmed that, although FlashPoint is coded for Region A, it works perfectly on UK PS3s.
Whether it really is region-free remains to be seen.

I watched my House of Flying Daggers Blu-ray last night (sourced from the US), great movie - I think it's the 3rd or 4th time I've seen it.

I didn't notice the cuts too much, even though I was looking for them, and as a whole, whilst I disagree with movie cuts, I won't be getting rid of the Blu-ray on the basis of the cuts.

The video quality was variable as mentioned in a lot of reviews, and some scenes certainly did look rubbish (especially when this is meant to be HD glory), however, I'm guessing it's a problem with the print, and I question whether we'll see a better version any time, if ever. Some scenes look very nice, and it's an upgrade over the DVD version, so I don't mind.

The audio was fantasic. :)

It's also a BD25 so being on a Single Layer using MPEG2 compression disc doesn't help much.

Thanks btw. I considered but it is cut in a far few places, unlike the UK DVD which is cut in only one place. That and like you say it's not the overall improvement over the DVD it should be.

It is my favourite out of Hero, Curse of the Golden Flower and House of Flying Daggers though. I agree it is a great film.

I wasn't a big fan of Curse of the Golden Flower - it was good, but nothing special... tough call between Hero and House of Flying Daggers, but I'd have to give the nod to Hero... hopefully there'll be a decent release of it sometime.

I think it's out on German HD-DVD but no English subs.

Curse of the Golden Flower was ace. It's less approachable than HOFD, it felt very Shakespearean.

I don't know if these are some digicam screencaps again, but these beaver Flashpoint caps show more edge enhancement that I have ever seen in my life.

Those can't be real caps... I don't think Beaver can do them and so takes pics of their screens instead which is really pointless IMO.

I'm not sure how DVD Beaver takes pictures, it won't be with a digital camera as that would result in a picture nothing at all like the final product.

I think Salty has already posted this but it gets a good review here:

In the past they've definately taken pictures of the TV screens - they've commented on it. But I don't know if that's what every contributor does. I don't recall seeing any proper caps at Beaver though...

Those pics on DVD beaver are photos, they're irrelevant anyway because they're tiny jpegs. Not to mention that the display/camera/software is fucked up terribly - that's not EE it's a ridiculous amount of sharpening over the whole image and horrific contrast. Worse than Tooze's own digicam comparisons.

Here are some proper PNG's from the BD:

Still pretty bad but HK films always look rather awful.

Thanks Lourdes. It looks much better in those captures.

They should say that in their reviews. They're worth it to get a very rough idea but certainly nothing more.

Look at any HD disc review, every single one of them has the same problems, it's just horrific. It's not even difficult to find a forum/site that has proper captures, why on earth would you use a camera and then screw with the image?

Casshern is coming to Italy on HD-DVD.

http://cinemastore.virtual-shops.it/art ... 000053989U

And it's the original theatrical cut, as well.
If they put some english subtitles on there, I'm off to buy a player. :D
