I do agree with Yi-Long - I'm sick of seeing the same old shitey films re-released in "Faultless Ultimate" editions with the usual imperfections (so fucking easy to fix too), whilst real new stuff we're itching to see is pushed back again and again and then when we do get it, it's got some annoying fault because some arse was stupid and should really be out of their job. They should be listening to people who comment or email.

I've been waiting for a legit release for ages and whilst I don't like bootlegs, I'm honestly about to say "fuck off" to all of that. You only get one chance in life and if I got killed by a car tomorrow, then all that waiting is for nothing.

@ Chen: Did you see my link above? I think that's what you wanted.

The funny thing is "we're all" with Yi. We just don't harp on about it :D

Actually, YOU bring up my pessimism and irritation about this issue way more often than I bring it up.

In other words, YOU keep raking it up again and again and again (and in this case, Eva) and you as usual dove right on it once again...), thus MAKING me respond on it again and again and again.

FYI to find out what it is, I clicked the QUOTE button and thus could then see the code.

Didnt they schedule to release Tai Chi master and Fist of Legend end of 2007? They made that 'promise' about a year ago.
Actually, they didn't 'promise' you anything. What they did do, however, was include those films on their "tentative" 2007 release schedule. It was pushed back, so what? Did you honestly believe they'd release ALL their A-list titles in a matter of months? Just being realistic.

:D

Flash Point is up at DVD Active. I don't think it tells us anything new but here's the link:

http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releases/flash-point.html

This is already out on UK 2 Disc SE by CineAsia (Showbox) but I bet this R1 DD will easily beat it with DTS and the Bey Logan Commentary.

too bad the other cast members couldn't be brought in for exclusive interviews but overall, I'll go with this just for the commentary, interview and the bts-stuff (if it's exclusive as well).

I LOVE the UK cover - so fucking slick (my only gripe is it doesn't list the other stars on the front unlike DD's) and it's possible the subtitles were re-translated too (a thing DD doesn't do for the films).

However, DD has a few more extras, an English dub and DTS Cantonese.

Will rent it first as I haven't seen the film - probably a shower of shit despite the ridiculous hype.

film was quite good action aside, TOO clichéd but still come with great direction, production values, music and such (courtesy of Yip of course).

Shame we have different cultures as it's said some things in it are pretty odd (some chicken delivery scene) - clichés really annoy me and distract from what could be an alright film.

I think each film should come with a soundtrack of sound effects from the 70s/80s (the classics used by Independent Studios and Golden Harvest).

I prefer the DD cover art.

It's called Flashpoint in the UK for those trying to find it, instead of Flash Point everywhere else.

Flash Point was originally going to be a Cat 3 (!!!) crime thriller about a cop who investigates a case of boxers being murdered by someone within the underground fighting world. Some problems occurred during shooting in Macau (original location for production) which led the the team relocating back to HK and the story rewritten (to a straight action movie). You can read more of this in Bey's blog at DD site.

speaking of soundtrack and effects for MA movies, I think Flash Point is a winner. I don't know how those, have seen it, would think of this issue but for me it was such a fresh and impacting experience hearing the sound effects (newly created) and especially the music score (composed by the guy who did the music for Infernal Affairs trilogy and SPL) that served a more dramatic tone to the whole movie.

The IVL HK DVD is currently the best right? It's Non-Anamorphic though right?

According to DVDFromKorea.com the Korean DVD is Anamorphic.

I bet the Bey Logan commentary will be ported over from it. Isn't this supposed to be one of the best Shaw Brothers films? I may have to check the DD DVD out.

IVL is non-ana from what I've heard. The European dvds should all be anamorphic. I used to own the finnish dvd but didn't find the film a keeper (and the Finnish subs also had a tming error). Touch of Zen and Raining in the Mountain are both better movies.

I used to have the German DVD, which was anamorphic but had badly timed English subs, as does the HK DVD. Good film, but King Hu would improve

Interesting cover. Makes the film look more agressive and erotic than it is!

This DVD will have (I'm assuming) Mandarin mono and a proper transfer (maybe frame-cut this time). As Ivan has emphasised, the subtitles are issue...

Is there evidence to suggest that an English dub was ever created?

True, that is a strange pose for Cheng Pei Pei. If the commentary is ported over I may even upgrade (if they have the original trailer).
Yes the IVL is non anamorphic.

Thanks Hung and Ivan.

I didn't know there was a German DVD with English subs. Oddly I don't think it's ever been released in the UK.

I'd be surprised if Bey records a new commentary when he's already done one with Chang Pei Pei (which has been ported to other countries DVDs). I know he's redone commentaries for DVDs which he already had done with HKL, but I get the impression conctractually he cannot re-use those.

Grim: You wouldn't upgrade if the original trailer wasn't included and would prefer keeping your non-anamorphic HK IVL DVD?

For people who want English subs this looks like a no brainer, presuming it's better than the German DVD.

Only a few Shaws were released on dvd in the uk, and they were pickings from what Dragon Dynasty didn't get. Same in Australia, where Dragon Dynasty titles have been released.

In Germany, Holland etc, they've had full access to everything

I'm not sure if the Bey commentary did get ported out of HK but feel free to correct me!

New commentary :).

No idea about extras though.
