Not originally Big Band, put played in that style I guess. 1 or 2 years ago (I think) Shirley Bassey did a version of Get The Party Started and that was the one Rydian performed.
S Club 7's "Reach" isn't a big band song either, they didn't even play it in a different style.
I thought Hope were good as well, does he want them to replace Girls Aloud or something?

Replace no, but be competition to yes. I cannot believe Andy got through, he was AWFUL. Future proof (what an awful name) were second worst though. The guys on the end really stuck out.

I don't think there was anything wrong with the song though. You could see Simon was really pissed off.

Is the final just 3? If so:

Niki
Rydian
Hope - It's not as if they need to be good singers, unlike the other two.

I can also see "Same Difference" being in the final, not because they're good enough but just because it's how the show works.

Leon does nothing for me and Andy is just bland. They'll never win.

That said Rydian is completely the wrong type of singer for a pop show. If he wins then it won't probably ironically do his career any good. What market is he going to sell to? Teeny boppers aren't going to like an album of his music, not that they buy albums anyway.

Granted G4 did well for a while but G4 had some handsome chaps. Rydian good looking? No way.

Hope could be a decent pop act. The simple fact is despite the show "claiming" to appeal to all ages it doesn't. It's market are teenagers so anything more than Pop by teenagers or 20s won't sell.

Sure it's nice to see older singers given a chance but again what market is their music going to appeal to? Again kids aren't going to buy their albums and older folk won't be interested.

Teenagers won't buy Rydian's albums/music, I can see him doing well in theatre though.
I don't know if the final is 3 or not - it could be 2 or 3.
I'd go with that selection of Niki, Rydian and Hope though, Hope would appeal to teeangers as competition fpr Hirls Aloud or whatever.

I'd rather "see" Rydian put on a show than just listen to him, if you get what I mean. His showmanship is part of his appeal too. Though his voice is fantastic. He's a classically trained solo artist and claimed he'd never been on stage before X Factor (!)

I think Girls Aloud are good.

They're certainly one of the better girls band, of which there aren't many any more. I can only think of them and Sugababes, who've gone all pop. I cannot think of any American girl bands except for Pussycat Dolls and they weren't really a girl band in the usual sense.

They're no longer a "reality show" act but are obviously still very manufactured. I doubt they have a say in anything.

The people behind them did give them an unusual amount of faith. It's not common for a reality show act to get such good material so early on. Their debut song is a great pop song.

I did see Rhydian perform his song. Vocally he was outstanding, though I've heard You Raise Me Up millions of times. The guy has an amazing voice.

He was brilliant but boy Andy was just dreadful. I've fast forwarded through his dross two week in a row.

Same Difference were painful. Talk about completely murdering a good song.

In the sing off Andy was crap. Beverley was good although I felt she belted the song a bit and there was little pain or angst in her rendition.
Rhydian's performances alone of "Phantom" and this (You Raise Me Up) so far deserve to win IMO.
