Has anybody got the HK DVD of Tom Yum Goong from CD-Wow yet? Its 2 discs but the extras listed don't look to be very much...

I know it has no English subtitles but there are bound to be some extras which are exclusive to this release, just like Ong Bak (and thats the reason why I own 3 editions of that film!) so I'm wondering if I should get Tom Yum Goong for the measly sum of £7.99 that CD-Wow are asking.

What's the image quality like?

To be honest, I'm not bothered about no subtitles because right now I can just skip to the action scenes & then when a subtitled release (Eastern Eye?) comes out I'll buy that too...

The extras won't have subs either. IMO subs on extras are as important as subs on the main film. If I can choose that is.

Fair enough but I couldn't do that I want to watch the film in it's entirety it's a film not a stunt documentary. Even if the story is probably ropey.

I don't think Eastern Eye own the rights so right now it's looking like the PA (altered or not).

EDIT: Bugger it looks like Weinstein has the Aussie rights (scroll to the bottom):

I think he has the R1 rights too. I suspect despite probably being altered the PA DVD will be the best for English speakers.

Damn, I wish Eastern Eye had the rights in Australia. I think they probably did they best overall release of Ong Bak.

I too want to watch the film in its entirety but I also don't want to wait to watch the fight scenes! Ong Bak was pretty much a stunt documentary to me - I've watched the film right through about 3 times but I've watched the fight scenes so many more times than that!

I think I may just take a chance & order the HK DVD of Tom Yum Goong...

I'm still hopeful on Fearless but Tom Yum Goong who knows.

At least with Fearless it's very much early days. Tom Yum Goong has been out for ages.

Yeah I know. I saw TYG on it's first day of release in HK

But I've really had it with all these different versions of movies. I'll just be going for bootlegs for any movie they fail to release in a decent manner. Doesnt have to be 10/10 for audio/video or whatever, but I do want them to be uncut and subbed. That's all. And if they cant provide that, then I wont give them any of my money. There are enough DVD's out there that ARE worth spending money on. And I can wait 10-20 years untill they do finally release a movie as it should be released.

How about making a little picture quality comparison? If you could post a few screencaps, I could take matching caps from my thai dvd. I'm especially interested in the final big fight scene as the image on the thai disc is very grainy on that scene

Lol, would love to only I don't have a DVD player on my PC, I never watch the films on this thing. When I download films, I rip them to DVD.

Anyway, I already did a little comparing between the two discs (Korean & Thai) on my home DVD player and they're about the same, picture-wise.

The Thai has better extras, but I would probably stick the Korean disc in my player more often than the Thai as it has the subs.

So, if you want alot of extras (including hidden stuff) Thai disc is the shit!

Or if subtitles are more important and you can live with a few extras, Korean disc is a good buy.

Or, if you have some spare cash, buy them both, like I did
