Love Battlefield 4/5

Thanks to LD's recommendation, I managed to see the whole thing. It is so unappologetically violent! I mean it starts off as a cute little romance but then turns into a bizarre kidnapping movie.

We're talking like From Dusk Til Dawn in terms of extreme genre change.

Peter Jackson's King Kong - 4/5
Very good remake in my opinion. Right when the audience is fed up with ther over-usage of special effects in current Hollywood-films, Peter Jackson did a great job with the effects of "King Kong". That's all I can say about it really.

Unbreakable (R1 Vista Series) - 4/5

I was only intending to give this a "run through" in my player to make sure it worked (one of the disc platters was cracked and there were a few marks on the disc) but it played perfectly. I hadnt tried it on my JVC player

A very good thriller, that has an excellent twist at the end.

Bruce Willis is the "Hero" so Sam Jackson as his opposite must be the villain right? If he really did commit that many murders (and engineered the train crash himself), how come he's not in jail or wanted by the police? Why would he think his purpose is to kill people?

Doesn't "Mr. Glass" sound a great name for a villain?[/spoiler]

Not Stephen Chow's greatest but reasonably entertaining. I like the bit with the beggars, as well as that awesome song.

Once Upon a time in the West - 5/5

Okay apart from Unforgiven, this is the only western i have seen. Now that out of the way, i got to say this is an excellent movie, i've loved every second in it. James Fonda and Charles Bronson are excellent in this. The music is very good, when reading on the booklet, it says that in the beginning, the director wanted Lee Van Cleef and Clint Eastwood to be 2 of the 3 bandits, that would have been cool to see.

I haven't seen any of Clint Eastwood movies of western, ie the good, the bad and the ugly. Need to watch these now.

I have to also say Paramount have done an excellent job in restoring and cleaning up the movie, this is perhaps one of the best restoration i have seen. There is soo much details it's unbelieveable.

BTW, the actor's name you're thinking of is Henry Fonda. not James

I also thought Charlie Bronson was excellent (as the guy with the harmonica).

Yep, i really liked this movie, regarding your questions....
I would imagine the police not believing that Samuel Jackson character could do this, as if you look at him, he gives off that he cannot hurt anyone.

The film is Yin and Yang, where they is an positive, there is negative, so in keeping with this, if Bruce Willis is a hero, the Samuel Jackson is a villian, as per Comic books which he seems to base his life on

Thinking about it, I should have worked it out ages ago, "Mr. Glass" sounds like a comic villian name, and as you say Willis and Jackson are opposites.

Yeah the wood boxset contains the German SE's, or you can just buy them in a 4 pack without the LE stuff.

Hollow Man - 3/5

The premise of this film is actually quite interesting and chilling and used to good effect, the problem is Kevin Bacon, who is awful as the main focus of this film, as the scientist who volunteers to be a human guinea pig to become the worlds first invisible man. Good effects for the time too.

The ending is sadly proposterous - I felt like I was watching Terminator or something

I like Kevin Bacon. He's one of the bravest actors in the business. Who else would have the balls to play such a bastard?

I think they filmmakers actually made a mistake cutting the rape sequence on this occasion as we don't get to see how vicious - and frightening - Bacon is at the point we should.

Transporter 2 - 4/5

Aye enjoyable romp and I preferred it to the first. Pretty damn cheesy but the fights were nicely choreographed. Plus I like the music in this - I kept bopping my head throughout the film like a mofo.

Monsoon Wedding 4.5/5

Visually and emotionally triumphant. Had great expectations from Mira Nair, let's just say that they were easily met. The family issues were handled nicely and there were some tough choices to be made. Also refreshing to see positive output from the Indian independant movie scene.

I've given it a 0.5 out of generosity in that it might have got better after I left two thirds of the way through. its the first film in many years ive had to walk out of but it was so incredibly poor. plenty of promise but never came through with anything apart from an uncomfortable plot, crap script, thoroughly dislikable characters, Patrick swayze played his part well but it was a really crap part to begin with.... Aaaargh, money wasted....

Most prob the french version would contain this, i have the french special edition of the first movie, and it a couple extended fight scenes then the US/UK Version. Very cool menus as well.

Anyway back on track

Godzilla: Final War - Region 1 DVD - 3.5/5
Okay i have seen a couple of reviews of this movie, mostly the people say that for a action movie it is really good, but for an Godzilla movie, it falls down....
Are they right... or are they wrong....?

I've got to say, they are right

Godzilla: Final War focuses on the human/mutant, rather than Gojira himself

. You see what happens to him in the beginning, then he comes around 3/4 of the movie in. The scenes were he is in are excellent, although the fight scenes should have been a bit longer in my opinion. Especially the much hyped Gojira vs Zilla (US Godzilla). The CGI looked a bit weak for Zilla and i didn't mind that, but it ended in 15 secs. Zilla just jumps on Gojira, he moves away and pushes him on Sydney Opera and blastes him... i wish this could have been a bit longer... Although this leads to the classic line in the movie where the alien says

" I knew that tuna eating lizard was good for nothing! "

The end fight scenes is excellent and it good to see Gojira kicking butt. Ryuhei Kitamura is a visual director and he is excellent, i love Versus, Azumi and Sky High. You can plainly see his influence on this movie, but the influence is are on the human/mutant fight scenes, if you seen Ryuhei movie before, then you know what to expect, fast camera movement, stylish japanese marital art movement. But i didn't feel he brought anything new to Godzilla himself (although if it not brioken, why fix it

). I did like this movie, when Gojira was in it, and the opening scenes is excellent. It just the middle with the human/mutant lets it down which is a pity.

Now onto Region 1 dvd, okay the video is clean but not brilliant, the subtitles are clear and readable, and the audio is good - Japanese 5.1 - Excellent package right.... well... here where i was deeply disappointed

In one scene for "New York", it seems Sony has dub the swear words. There is a NY cop who shouts at a PIMP, and you can clearly see him saying the f work a couple of times, but this has been dubbed over to a saying screw you instead. Okay the movie is not cut, but certain bits are have redub so the film can be suited PG13

This is deeply disappointing to me, and it makes me want to look for another version which is uncut. Also there is a scene was the alien seems to come out of the human, but you don't see it, it is a fast cut away, and makes me feel that it was cut. If someone could confirm this?

So lastesting thoughts, as i said, for an action movie - very cool. For Gojira final movie... no thanks, please come back...
