R4 caps finally added, typical New Zealander.

The R4 has the look of a VHS sourced-DVD even though it isn't, it's dull and flat. The R2UK almost looked like it has had levels boosted but in the context of the whole film it all looks perfectly correct to me. There's just the stark contrast between releases that makes it look unnatural.
I also much prefer the white subs. WTF is with anime companies (and Madman as a whole) still doing that? Yes back on VHS they were more suitable, not anymore.

The Aussies love their yellow subs, it's as simple as that. In all the polls over at the Madman forums Yellow almost universally wins. I agree it sucks but there you go. Madman only use white on B&W films.

As for the DVDs it's obvious they come from the same master. I've no idea what you mean that it looks like it was sourced from VHS, the R4 looks nothing like VHS.

The big difference I see is in the colours and not having seen the film I do not know which is more accurate. I don't think either looks bad. I'd even say the flatter colours suit the look of the film.

The UK DVD as you say looks look it's been heavily boosted but I've no idea if it's supposed to look like that or not? Based on those captures I'd give it to the R4. I don't much like the contrast boosting.

Easy one, Eureka wins. The colours have been manipulated, but as Lourdes said "they just look right".

Although I can't be arsed double-dipping, especially for an expensive MoC release.

The MOC series are a wee bit expensive aren't they. Very impressive though.

Lourdes: cut it. I've put up with you taking a pop at me for months now. Give it a rest. I don't take pot shots out of the blue at you. I ask you please do the same.

If you don't like me disagreeing with your comments then don't bother posting, this is a forum it's how things work. The R4 looks nothing like VHS and if anything just shows how much you actually know.

That was harsh Hung :?
