OK.Bisc wrote:Seriously, the PE is noticeably inferior.
Then, how about you make your own comparison, then I'll reply with my own comparison when I have time ?
You'll see how inferior the CE really is.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Ah ok then feel free to provide grabs. If you're resizing, then make one comparison a cropped image of the original resolution. I think you'll find that the PE is inferior, particularly in the shadow details and motion-heavy instances IIRC.
Edit: That was in response to LD. But I'll try and get a hold of the PE.

Because the CE has a Donnie interview that is not present on the PE.bradavon wrote:Why do you own both? I traded my CE.thelostdragon wrote:I have the PE and the CE of "Iron Monkey".
I also did a comparison in my PE review, but that was a really lame comparison as the screenshots are too small and the images aren't next to each other. Instead they pop up in a new window. Here is the link:

True. I assume you like owning the lot.thelostdragon wrote:Because the CE has a Donnie interview that is not present on the PE.
The CE looks really washed out.I also did a comparison in my PE review, but that was a really lame comparison as the screenshots are too small and the images aren't next to each other.

Not afraid but . . .
A: I don't have it at hand to install, B: I don't like clutter on my PC, C: I've zero need for it otherwise, D: Won't WMP do?, E: No offence to Tom but comparing against French DVDs doesn't usually mean much to me, F: I've barely got any time to watch films let alone spend time creating captures and finding the exact same frame.
BUT I do think a Musa Korean R3 vs. R4 would be really nice to see so will see if I can come up with something for the R4. Only Grim has an official copy mine is a bootleg from the R4 so it's not going to be a perfect comparison but will give us some idea.
p.s - Okay I tell you what if I can use WMP (assuming it produces adequate captures) I'll see if I can come up with some ATGB captures the next day or so THEN Tom can time his captures with mine.

Cool, cheers. If you can't get it to work then disable your video card's Hardware Acceleration in the Display Properties and then use the good old Print Screen key.bradavon wrote:p.s - Okay I tell you what if I can use WMP (assuming it produces adequate captures) I'll see if I can come up with some ATGB captures the next day or so THEN Tom can time his captures with mine.

I'd like to see how my Wild Side (R2FR) discs of Shaw Brothers movies compare to their IVL counterparts.
Anybody got Come Drink with Me or Blood Brothers ?

Oh yeah, that'll be fun.If I go first Tom can spend the time finding the same frames I used

You should've said that 6 months ago. That's when I sold all my Celestials (except One-Armed box) and decided to get Wild Sides instead...Tom2681 wrote:I'd like to see how my Wild Side (R2FR) discs of Shaw Brothers movies compare to their IVL counterparts.

The good news is that Wild Sides are very easy to sub. There is no difference in running time other than the the celestial logo (one version has it as a part of the movie file and the other doesn't). That was the case with Shantung and Pole Fighter at least...

Just for you guys I tried but failed. WMP10 gave me an error "Windows Media Player has encountered a problem" and then refused to load the DVD so I double clicked on each VOB and they loaded fined.
I press Print Screen or use Corel Capture and all it actually captures is a very dark grey window. I think it's refresh rate related but either way it won't capture the DVD.
I have an MPEG2 driver installed which I assume is working as the VOBs open up. I fired up AnyDVD to make sure it was Macrovision, Multiregion, Copy protection which was stopping this.

Maybe you should use Media Player Classic (it's just an exe file / no install required).
It has a built-in Mpeg-2 filter and a Save Snapshot function.

Good thinking Catman that worked fine. I suspect it's the external MPEG2 decoder. Man WMP is uber pants. Media Player Classic is one top program no Bloatware just loads of options. I already have MPC installed.
EDIT: Correction the DVD loads but when I try to save an Image it says:
"getcurrentimage failed, hr = 8000ffff"
It could be Hardware acceleration how do I turn it off in MPC? Before anyone says it I'm not using any with a * -
