Hong Kong WIP Movie Spiteful Women 1978

Post by Kuyiul »

Does anybody know where you can get this rare Hong Kong WIP movie on DVD?

Spiteful Women: director Lam Yi-Hung 1978 Hong Kong

It’s in hkmdb but does not seem to be available to watch or buy anywhere. Maybe it has been released on DVD under an alternative title? Any ideas? thanks.

That's a shame. I don't know why they made these films if there is no way anybody can watch them. That's really annoying. There are a few other Asian WIP films that I can't get hold of either, annoying!

To turn a quick profit from theatrical exhibition. The entire concept of home video was alien to producers in 1978.

Most of the companies that produced these films have long since disappeared.

35mm prints may exist - probably gathering dust in someone's garage - but who possesses the current rights is anyone's guess?

Unfortunately there is that possibility that the prints may be gone. If the negatives (or positives) were not exported, HK Is not a great place to keep film as it deteriorates there rather rapidly if not kept in a specifically cool, not humid vault.

What about if it has ever been broadcast on a TV channel, surely they must have a copy? Sure, if it has only ever been played in a cinema it probably is lost by now.
