Yeah it's up there with Halloween & The Thing as one of Carpenter's best imo, but for many years it was considered to be a cheesy guilty pleasure!

Indeed
I loved it as a kid, but when I went back to it on DVD i was disappointed. Now revisiting again without that expectation I was really impressed.
8.5/10 for me. Brilliant.

They got plenty of good titles. Tues was the last day of their '3 for £20' offer, so I got the 2 titles I mentioned plus Nikita. Almost got Django Unchained but I watched it too recently...
