PS Vita

Post by gasteropod »

Anyone else getting one? I cancelled my pre-order with GAME and have gone with Amazon because they've got a good deal on now - £209.99 with a free 8gb memory card, and a game for £15 (I chose Lumines Electronic Symphony which is the main game I wanted anyway). I also ordered Touch My Katamari for £19.95 from The Hut. I can't wait for next Wednesday!

You/he may want to check and compare it to the new deals at Amazon and Play because the prices have come down and they're all competing with each other.

It's not for me (my interest in computer games goes after about 10mins) but it does look great.

I was interested in it, even though I'm not really big into handheld gaming except for those times I'm on a plane or train...

... but the 1 account per Vita, the price for the exclusive memorycards, the online-passes stuff, etc etc, has really put me off.

I might pick one up at the end of the year when we've moved to Hong Kong, prices have dropped, and maybe it's been hacked by then... but I certainly won't be getting one at launch.

The memory card thing annoyed me but now that it's £209.99 with a memory card included (and not even the smallest one), I can't complain.

Oh Gas, if you should have learned just 1 thing from me from all these years on BNB, it's that there is ALWAYS something to complain about! Always! ;)

I still would have preferred normal SD-cards though, simply because those are cheaper plus I have some of those still lying around, plus it's nice that you can use them for different things, instead of now being stuck with an unproven card which you can ONLY use for your Vita.

Surely you weren't surprised though?

Sony have never used SD cards to my knowledge or any other mass used memory card. Whether it's the original PSP or their digital cameras, they always come up with a new type of propitiatory memory card. The only exception I know of, is their Android phones (which use the universal MicroSD). I suspect that's because Android only supports SD cards. It's not their OS.

Yeah Sony constantly do annoying things but at the end of the day, the Vita looks fucking amazing and I really want it, so I just have to ignore these things. I've been a big fan of the PSP - I still use mine regularly.

My dream is for REZ to come out for the Vita and utilise touch-screen controls for the aiming, that would be immense! Just imagine what it'd look like on the OLED screen!

No I wasn't surprised by it, cause Sony keeps coming up with this shit, but you'd hope that one day they'd catch on...

I'm just gonna wait a while and see how it all pans out for the Vita. Specs-wise it all looks amazing, especially with the OLED-screen and the 2nd analogue stick. I'm just not sure about all the crap I mentioned, like online passes, 1 account per Vita, etc etc.

The fact that I'm not a big handheld gamer anyway is the reason I don't feel the need to have it right away, and TBH I hope it gets hacked somehow, even if only for the reason that if there are 'free' alternatives to their download-only games, that those prices won't be kept artificially high...

I like my PSP as well, but TBH most games are just ports of console-games, which is a bit disappointing.

I generally tried to avoid ports, apart from new Katamari and WipEout ones because they weren't just straight ports anyway. Lumines, Gunpey, Every Extend Extra, LocoRoco, and Patapon are my favourite PSP non-ports, I'm seriously keeping my PSP until Gunpey makes it onto PSN so I can play it on the Vita (if ever), it's so addictive and can be played whenever.

I'm gonna youtube Gunpey to see what the hell that is...

I think the game I played and liked most on PSP was Everybody's Golf. I also liked some RPG's like Disgaea and Jeanne 'dArc, but when I had to change my firmware to play some of the newer games, it kinda messed up the save-files, so that sucked a bit...

I couldn't really get into Patapon cause I just suck at rythm-games. I'm just really REALLY white I guess. Locoroco was OK but I didn't really get hooked.

I'm traveling by train this coming month to my girlfriend and back (2,5-3 hour trip to get there) so now I'm kinda playing on the PSP again. I need new batteries though cause the ones I have now run out pretty quickly.

'Exit' was pretty cool too but I ended up getting stuck. Oh and 'Mercury'! I'm so proud of myself for completing that one, God that was ages ago.

Why do you need more than one account attached?

In case my girlfriend wants to use it...!?
In case something happens to the first account!?

I don't think it's fingerprint-activated and refuses to work/severs your hands off if you're not the account holder

Surely she can still use it without logging in? I get it that it may be against your scores but couldn't she play offline?
Yi-Long wrote:In case something happens to the first account!?
I imagine it's simple enough to logout (or something similar) then log back in.

While I'm a huge gamer (own a PS1, 4xPS2s, X360, DC, GC, PSP and DS) I won't be getting it until it gets games that actually interest me. Same goes for 3DS.

What kind of games are you into? I think the Vita's lineup is pretty good, have you seen Gravity Rush/Daze?

I play anything (jRPGs, action, shooters, bullet hells, 2D or 3D fighting) as long as it's not sports games or racing (Forza, GT, Burnout and Carmageddon being exceptions). Gravity Daze looks awesome but no way am I buying a console for it alone. Every single console that I bought had that special something (PSP - Tekken, Ace Combat X, Castlevania; DS - three Castlevania titles, Contra 4), so far Vita has nothing for me =/

And I doubt that it will surpass PSP. PSP with custom firmware has shitload of 100% working emulators (NES, SNES, Mega Drive, NEO GEO, GBA) and full backwards compatibility with PS1 titles.

The european release of Ninja Gaiden Vita is censored and it's missing the original language.

Another example why it would have been nice to have been able to have multiple PSN-accounts for the VITA, so we could just download an asian version instead (which is uncensored and has english subs).

It's not the first time they censor Ninja Gaiden for European countries. Blame Germany.
