Police Story 3: Supercop - 4/5

Very entertaining JC film that I really enjoyed seeing again.

I'm not sure which of the series is "best" - PS2 got half a point knocked off because the Japanese cut felt overlong, on the other hand this film lacks the emotion of the first two (IMHO) so perhaps the first two (the HK cut of PS1 and 2) are better "films"?

Don't get me wrong this is still very enjoyable.

It has some great action, dangerous looking stunts, (like the one where JC hangs from a rope ladder up in the air) and a funny comic scene with Uncle Bill/Michelle playing the part of his Chinese "family"

Jackie's voice (and especially Maggie's) sound very different here compared to PS1 and 2, this is probably because of the synch-sound shooting of the film.

A seriously camp, silly and very fluffy film is how I would describe this. It kind of reminded me of an power rangers episode which I never was a big fan of. So why did I enjoy this film I give you two words Eriko Sato who plays the leading lady. She is so god dam cute and sexy in the film; at times I did not care what was going on, hell I would give up reading the subs because she is just so dam cute

The director knows this too and panders alot to the fanboys. We get to see Cutey Honey in her underwear, suggestivly bending over etc ala Charlies Angels.

The film is alright with humour and all round campyness. It kept my attention through out

It's not the most important film of the year but if you get a chance to see, take it

Great fun sequel to Jackie's 1978 film [b]Drunken Master[/b] (it has a lot of the same actors), with a different guy in the JC role. I really enjoyed it

However it seemed to drag quite a bit at the start (SITES had the same problem upon revisiting it). The fights were very good though so maybe I just don't "get" Canto humour and jokes (I found some of them a bit silly).

If only Markgway was here then he could answer this - was the original language Cantonese or Mandarin? :wacko:
Also the Aspect Ratio looked wierd, it looked like it was 1.85/1 but also overly "stretched" or something, so it looked wierd and wrong.

BTW, it was cool to have those rare Hwang Jang Lee clips as extras on the SB disc (but it would have been nice to know where they were from, and to subtitle them in English). The other clip was a rare trailer/TV spot for Jackie's "Drunken Master" (again not subtitled) which makes me wonder why HKL couldn't get it on their own release.
The print used for DOTDM was not bad but far from excellent, with flickering, damage and colour fluctuation at various points through the film.
The other extras are trailers for "Secret Rivals" "Green Snake" and "DOTDM".
Green Snake looked like a typical Tsui Hark HK fantasy film from the mid-90's (if there is such a thing), and pretty interesting, with Maggie and the gorgeous Joey Wong in the same film!

The trailers were a bit cheesy though - in "Secret Rivals" they used the same "Completely Uncut" tag HKL used to - what was cut? And "This is a Kick-Ass Movie!"

Not bad by any means but I prefer the radio series a lot more.

Susan Sheridan is better as Trillian IMO - the sexy/ditzy Sandra Dickinson just isn't right at all, I can see why they chose David Dixon as the TV show Ford though.

No it's not, Seven is far far better. In every area (except maybe cinemtography, both are good).

Besides Seven is a very different film.

Will you get more out of then if you've seen recent HK movies Bisc?

The only recent HK gangster/triad film I've seen is IA 1 and 2 (of the top of my head). But I have of course seen classics like the A Better Tomorrow films and The Killer

I'd like to check MSIB out. It sounds pretty funny as you said

Aye I've not seen that many HK gangster flicks either but I still managed to enjoy it. I think you should be fine with that background of movies. Give it a go. :scared:

How time flies eh?

Originally released in Japan in 2001 as [i]Cerebii: A Timeless Encounter[/i] I thought I'd never see this (couldn't be arsed, don't keep up with the series anymore), but its' actually not that bad. The story, involving nature, time travel and Dark (Evil) Pokémon can get quite literally dark and emotional at times - for a Pokémon film anyway (though the moral of this film appears to have been nicked from Miyazaki's [b]Princess Mononoke[/b] which is far superior).
The animation (a mix of hand drawn and CGI) is quite smart, and the music isn't too bad, retaining the original score (AFAIK) and one lovely piece of music from the Japanese soundtrack.

It did feel a bit wierd revisiting it now I'll grant you Romero, as I hadnt seen it for so long, it wasn't too bad but the story is laid on thick a bit at times (though there is some emotion in a plotline which is a bit more complex and dark than the TV show) but I dont think I'll rent the 5th film tomorrow or anything

Really, proper animé like Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away pisses all over this film from a great height, the American/English way of story telling is far less subtle IMO.

Amazing! second time watching it and plain and simply its gobsmacking! from the sound and music, to the actors and creepiness of it all! its soo good I am going to watch it agin in a few days when my parents are on holiday and put the DTS soundtrack as loud as it goes! cannot wait! may be the film of 2004!
