Getting shut of unwanted DVD/CD'S..would you give them away?

Post by saltysam »

I've had decent success on playtrade selling my old stuff but despite my best efforts some stuff is refusing to shift :| have been looking at these places...

http://www.filmvault.co.uk/

http://www.musicmagpie.com/

With filmvault you compile your list online, send it to them and around 24 hours later they come back to you with an offer. i did it the other day and they offered me £74 for 83 dvd titles some of which were hd-dvds and one boxset :o if you accept you box them up and they come and collect via courier.

Musicmagpie, you type the barcode into their search engine and it comes back with a value..some of their offers are appalling...30p on some titles, but for some reason i'm getting offers of £2-£3 for the odd disc.with these when you accept they send you freepost labels to send them off in. it's virtually giving them away but i want rid...decisions decisions...

It sounds like a good plan to me. Any money is better than no money. I've given some DVDs away because I cannot rid of them and I hate keeping DVDs I no longer want.

Thanks for the info btw. I have a few titles that I cannot get rid of.

I find that largely a complete waste of time and people expect to pay literally pennies, plus it takes all day/morning too.

I imagine they're UK discs only.

Film Vault say theyre "All Regions" but then it says your collection must be worth more than £90 to make it worth the courier coming :o
I want to get rid of the odd thing here and there but not as much as that.

That's bullshit as they have offered to collect mine for £73.anyway MusicMagpie might be better for small amounts.the majority of discs are valued at very little though.

I usually dump them on my girlfriend's dad. Not that I have many DVD's that I get rid off.
I never sell them, cause the money would be peanuts, and not worth the effort, and if I can make someone happy with it, I don't need the money anyway.

I've given musicmagpie a go, dumping R1/HK DVDs (eg Accidental Spy Universe) I have no need for.
I entered the UPC of the HK DVD and it come up as "US Import" (!)
I wanted rid of Goldeneye R1 UE but it has no UPC.

You're wrong :). Mine go between £3-10 on average. I've just listed 100 DVDs and am expecting to make £300 out of it. Not exactly peanuts.

it does indeed-however i've read elsewhere sending them in more than one package delays your payment.

I may have to be selective about which boxes I use.

I'm not wrong (and for future reference: I'm NEVER wrong), cause a: I hardly have ANY DVD's that I want to get rid off, and b; the ones I do want to get rid off, are usually already in the bargain bin at local stores for about 2-3 bucks a piece (new).

So yeah, maybe I could make 15-25 bucks or something if I would find some stuff in my collection that I don't want anymore, but for me personally, it really isn't worth the effort, so I'd rather just give it away.

You'd be amazed how many numpties are out there. I've just sold my Matrix Trilogy HD-DVD box set for £20 on eBay.
