Parents clamour for re-call of GTA: San Andreas video game

Post by grim_tales »

Anyone think people are over-reacting about this? :? In the US, GTA: SA is an M (Mature) rated game (over here its' BBFC 18 ) - Mature meaning not anyone under 17 can buy it.

But because of a bad unlockable sex themed minigame in their somewhere - people want it to get an Adults Only rating over there.. :? Since there's only a 1 year difference there thats pretty stupid if you ask me.

Conker's Bad Fur Day on the N64 had an M rating (IIRC) but that was rather cartoony in its' approach (though it did have swearing), very much tailored for a South Park audience.

When playing Perfect Dark I couldnt see much difference (in terms of violence) between that and the earlier Goldeneye.

To put it in to perspective: It's okay for 17-year olds to kill loads of people, car-jack people and show lots of blood, drug use, prostitution (which involves sex, no?), etc. But a 17 year old cannot watch a few second depiction of a sex act. That's 18 and over. :?

So randomly killing people: OK. :?

Sex: Whoa! Illegal. ADULTS ONLY!! Well thats just sad.

I've heard the sex is pretty soft anyway.

Also I've heard many parents (on both sides of the pond) mostly ignore game ratings and don't understand them, or can't be bothered. :?

What do you expect of a state that goes invading dozens of countries which of course involves lots and lots of killing, but prohibits things like abortion. In some states, even condoms or other contraceptives were (or still are) not allowed.

It already has an AO rating. Existing stock has been recalled and new stock will be arriving carrying the new AO rating.

The difference (which gave the game the 18 rating) was the blood content (and I think for some swearing too).

Unfortunately thats the way some Americans think. It is completely daft but there's nothing we can do about it...

The OLFC (sp?) (The Australian Ratings Board) - has withdrawn its rating for GTA: SA because of the Hot Coffee thing. This makes it impossible for the game to be sold legally in Australia.

Oddly, before this the game was rated only M (I think) for "Medium Level Animated Violence and Medium Level Coarse Language".

Crazy :D

Most Americans (NOTE: Not all) have big hang-ups around sex.

Lets not also forget they are obsessed with protecting themselves and the gun goes hand in hand with this. It's in their constitution you have the right to bare arms so to them it's normal to shoot each other (taken loosely).

I also believe most Americans to an extent are anesthetised to violence, they carry guns, it's in most American films in one way shape or form but of course when Columbine happens they can't work out why???

Hot Coffee thing?

Hot Coffee is the name of the sex-themed mini-game that can be unlocked apparently.

having recently completed gta san andreas on the pc I had sex 5 times, crappy polygon sex... but then I also killed over 2500 people, nearly half of those headshots. I also pimped out 10 women, blew up a few million quids worth of buildings, boats, helicopters, planes, cars and bikes....(stops for breath).... robbed 7 stores, created graffitti 40 something times, started 40 something gangwars, evaded the police 100+ times, beat someone to death with a giant double ended dildo, shot the tyres out of many cars just to watch giant motorway pile ups... i think the sex should be the least important thinghere ... :P

LOL true. It proves what a twisted logic some people have.

Having (I presume legal) sex = NO but illegal stuff = YES/OKAY
