Escape from New York - 3/5
I loved the character of Snake (especially since I'm used to the Metal Gear Solid games) and the visual style of the film, but it just seems like a wasted opportunity really. Not a great deal happens, and there are some terribly amateur-looking bits thanks to John Carpenter not really giving a damn about quality control haha. Still, it has a certain classic feel to it. I would be interested in seeing how a remake turns out if it ever ends up getting made, supposedly New Line have the rights.

Can't remember exactly when I saw it, but it was one of the first dvds I bought. Playstation 2 was my first dvd-player, and that was released in 2000 (I bought it the day it was released). I'm now 21, so I'd say I was around 14 when I saw the film.bradavon wrote:You saw End of the Affair when you were 14?
Sometimes I feel I had more adult taste back then than now. I loved American Beauty when I saw it in cinema and that was 1999 I think. I'm pretty sure I'd still like that film, though. But why waste time on re-watching American Beauty when I can spent that time on Rambobradavon wrote:You had adult tastes early.
Well, 11 in Finland. You probably guessed that alreadybradavon wrote:Bizarrely it's an 18 over here. I remember reading how shocked the director was, fully expecting it to get a 15.

Rambo: First Blood Part 2
A solid 6 out of 10
Clearly Rambo: First Blood Part 1 is the more mature and intelligent story but even though by Rambo levels it has a decent story by other levels it's poor, with this in mind I do think Part 1 needed some action. Regardless it is still a well made film.
Rambo 2 on the other hand barely has a plot to speak of and is really just an excuse for Rambo to fire a big gun and blow shit up. The first 20 minutes badly needed some tighter editing because until we get to Vietnam the film drags.
Thankfully once we're in Vietnam the pace is much better and the film really gets into gear. Like I said the plot is rubbish (it's still better than Transporter though) but the action is so flipping marvellous I was having so much fun I was able to forgive it.
It was weird watching Rambo be turned into exactly what he was fighting against in Part 1. Watching Rambo fire that uber cool bow and arrow (I want one!) and kill lots of people was great. Stallone plays the role perfectly. This is how action films are supposed to be done! Real mean kicking the shit out of people. The music was fantastic too, very cool indeed. Last but no means least the Vietnamese girl was hot!
I reckon I'll buy the HD-DVD (especially when it's £5.70 delivered from DVD Crave). I've only watched it in Stereo but could tell it would sound awesome in 5.1. I'll pass on Rambo: Part 1 though.
I'm looking forward to Part 3 next Monday night. I'll have to check out Rambo: Part 4 somehow.

I've seen The Hard Way LD, I liked it
Quite funny!
Ashes To Ashes - Episode 4: 5/5

I thought it was a fine episode but didnt have the usual amount of laughs (IMO). Gnne's putdowns to the feminists were hilarious. I loved the good cop/bad cop scene too, and Chris talking gently and munching pink wafer was just SO Chris
But it was very moving, like when Alex found out about her mum/Evan, and the scene in the vault reminded me of LOM S1 E6 when Gene/Sam are handcuffed together.

Brilliant!I am trying to find out who murdered this man !
If that makes me a fascist then Heil Bloody Hitler !

Living Dead At The Manchester Morgue 4/5
Excellent 70's italian zombie footage, unique in that it was filmed in the uk on rural country locations.Ray Lovelock and Arthur Kennedy are superb.extremely atmospheric, the locked in the morgue with the dead coming back to life scene is memorable! the blue underground transfer is very good.
The Warlords 2.5/5
Disappointing historical epic considering the talent involved. Overly melodramatic at times,it's still well worth a watch. excellent early battle scene lasting 15 minutes but nothing matches that from then on. i didn't care for the characters at all.
Awake 2.5/5
Short & low key thriller starring Haydn Christensen & Jessica Alba. Christensen needs a heart transplant and Alba is his love interest. it's pretty entertaining with a neat twist i didn't see coming (maybe i'm getting old) a solid rental i think, not a keeper.

Deep Cover (USA, 1992) – 4/5
Here’s one of the forgotten key movies of the 90s cop genre. Helmed by director-actor Bill Duke, whom most probably remember as Arnold’s teammate in Predator, Deep Cover manages to be hard hitting and believable at the same time. The screenplay is terrific and allows both the storyline and its two main characters to develop naturally. Laurence Fishburne is excellent as an undercover cop who realizes he’s better at playing a drug dealer than being a policeman, and Jeff Goldblum gives an equally good performance as his new partner; a small time businessman who sees his opportunity in new synthetic drugs.
Bound (USA, 1996) - 4/5
Wachowski bros’s debut film is still probably their best. Jennifer Tilly (whom I usually hate) and Gina Gershon play two women in love who decide to steal 2 million dollars worth of mob money from the former’s gangster boyfriend (the excellent Joe Pantoliano). The tension and the technical execution are superb. Despite being highly stylized the film never turns into a trick circus.
