Breakings News is total average. Never want to see that again  unmemorable fluff with nothing great in it at all, I hope to burn my copy soon if it doesnt sell.

Save your cash and get a good film instead of Breakings News, seen 1000 beter films.

Thanks Romero.

If CD WOW stock it then I'll get it when it's released if they don't then I'm in no rush. I'm not keen to pay over a tenner for it.

It's not known which cut they're using and I doubt we will know until a review appears online. I suspect it's the TC as you'd think it would be mentioned in the PR. I've asked at the HKL forums but I doubt I'll get an answer.

The thing is the R2 is going retail in September and the R4 is going rental so we'll have 3-4 months to find out which cut the R2 is going to be.

If the R2 is the TC then I'll get the R4 even though I'm dubious how good the R4 PQ will be. Don't get me wrong they produce decent DVDs (it's a Film to PAL DVD for once!) but I'm sure the R2 will be better. I also love the whole presentation of PA and HKL DVDs they are very professionally made.
grim_tales wrote:That Ozzy rating (can't be peeled off as its not a sticker) really destroys the cover of OB, IMO.
It's only cover art, no point losing any sleep over it.
grim_tales wrote:That probably beats PA then as far as having the unaltered Thai cut goes (though PA will have DTS).
Yeah durh. That was established weeks ago???

Did you need to wait for DVD Times to copy it from some website before you believed it? Personally I'm happier to take the word of one of the Madman mods :)

How long is the PA version of Taeguki?
Grim you already asked that over at Import Forums and I answered :)
its been obvious from the begining its the normal Korean cut the longest version out there so far (the directors cut isnt coming soon it seems), it was reviewed by the media and its that cut, and its on the BBFC site and its that cut. S its obviosu iwhich cut it always has been.

Sorry Brad :D
I'll get OB and wait on Taeguki then, see what we get with the PA DVD.
I've heard lots of bad press about the new Oz DVD ratings on the covers (supposed to make it easier for parents) messing up cover images. And I thought the current ones were ugly. :D At least our (and R1) ratings are discrete!

Silmido is brilliant 8) not quite as good as the film above, but based on true events so even more entertaining at times.

Grim does that a lot. He asks a question, gets the answer and then asks it again a few days/weeks later :D

Are you sure this DC you elude to exists? You're the "only" person I've ever known to mention it.

There is already two cuts one listed as the TC and a slightly longer DC. The R4 we know is the DC and considering the Korean DVD also seems to be this cut then I'm guessing the R2 will also be the same cut.

Put simply your mysterious DC I'm guessing will never (or at least for a very long time) see the light of day so I'm going for the longest known cut which right now is the R4.
grim_tales wrote:I'll get OB and wait on Taeguki then, see what we get with the PA DVD.
LOL you will be either way considering the R4 won't be out until December or January to buy. As I said by then we'll have had reviews and know what cut/how good the PA DVD is.

I suspect (considering all versions seem to be the same cut, maybe DC) I'll be getting the PA DVD. I just love everything about their releases from a technical point of view.

The PQ and SQ is always sublime (of the ones I own), the subtitles are excellent, the extras are fantastic, the menus are very good and the cover art it great.
I've heard lots of bad press about the new Oz DVD ratings on the covers (supposed to make it easier for parents) messing up cover images. And I thought the current ones were ugly. :D At least our (and R1) ratings are discrete!
Yeah people like to moan for the sake of moaning.

I don't see how the new certificates will help parents. The old design was already plastered across the front and rear cover. I'm guessing it's more likely just a redesign (ala - the BBFC redesigning their certificates).

The R1 certificate isn't discrete. It's either non-existent (i.e - unrated DVDs which I think as a theory is a very bad idea, especially when they have an underused certificate for it anyway) or very, very hard to spot. I wouldn't want to go the R1 route!
romerojpg wrote:Silmido is brilliant 8) not quite as good as the film above, but based on true events so even more entertaining at times.
I'm not sure about Silmido still I have months to decide. I don't like to double dip when I "know" a better version is coming or likely to come.

Taegukgi is also based on a true story.

Sorry Brad/Romero for cross posting. You're right I tend to do that too much :D (Though TBH I dont remember asking that question Romero was referring to). ;)

The BBFC have classified Taeguki with a 15 cert (!) and its 148mins long.

Interestingly, that's the running time of the Korean DVD (which is NTSC). Maybe they don't have to submit their trasnfer?

I'm sure the BBFC show the film length before PAL speedup. The DVD won't be that long.

If its' a DVD they show it with PAL speed up, no? :?
If it was a "Film" that would be different. Film runtime = NTSC runtime (I think)? :?

You could be right but I believe they show the film length irrespective of what it's going to go on. They do mention what it's intended for though.
grim_tales wrote:If it was a "Film" that would be different. Film runtime = NTSC runtime (I think)? :?
No not quite. I can't remember exactly but film length isn't the same as NTSC length (it's closer than PAL length though).

Nope it was announced officially and was about to come out and got canned at the last minute, they announced the Limited Edition staggering sounding set and it sounded amazing!
but for some reason it just never came out. I guess so they can get everyone to buy the normal edition 1st, then bring out the new much longer cut and everyone buys it again.

and you must read the wrong stuff if I am the only person you have heard talk about it :D as many forums have talked about it a lot.

The BBFC site list the time the item is on the media it will be viewed on, so when listing a DVD running time, that will include the PAL speed up.

e.g.
http://www.bbfc.co.uk/website/Classifie ... enDocument

Film run time: 114m 38s
Video run time: 109m 47s i.e. PAL speeded up.

Thanks Degeneration.

Brotherhood therefore says:

Feature: Film
Run Time 147m 54s

Feature: Video
Run Time 142m 8s

That doesn't answer the question which cut as there are two cuts out there. Whether either are the DC is debatable.

p.s - Cheers Romero.

Strange there are 2 film versions - 1 is 148m 8s and the other is 147m 54s...

Sorry I got mixed up with the film/video thing. The 148m is the film runtime (and therefore NTSC).

I see one is "Taeguki" and the other one is "Brotherhood (Tae Gu Ki)"
Are these not the same film? :? They appear to be, same cast/director, genre and both owned by Contender.

For those who hate the new Australian certificates (insert: everyone) check out this from the Madman boards:

Chris (Mod @ Madman):

I know you're all probably big fans of the new look OFLC logos and ratings, but just in case you aren't laughing I wanted to let you know that all Eastern Eye DVDs will feature reversible slicks which have "clean" covers. So once you have bought your DVD and take it home, you can choose to reverse the cover if you want. These covers will generally be the same but minus logos.

Ong Bak in particular will also feature alternative cover art, so you can pick which one you dig more.

:headbang: :blob2: :blob3: :blob4: :blob5: :blob6: :blob7: :blob8: :hello1:

Now if only this became a trend for ALL UK R2 and R4 DVDs!

After reading the Twilight Samurai MichaelDVD review I've added it to the first post. It's clearly better than the Tartan or HK DVD.

The Tartan DVD is from an NTSC transfer and is apparently a mess. The HK DVD only has DD5.1.

The EE DVD on the other hand is a FILM to PAL transfer (i.e - How it's meant to be done), has Full-rate DTS and a 6 minute Storyboard comparison, both the Tartan and HK DVD only have a Trailer.

For more info including the review check out the first post.

p.s - Sure the Japanese DVD beats them all but it's bloody expensive.

The Bangkok Dangerous spec. is up and is looking very good:

Image

Released - 21/09/2005

UNCUT
Anamorphic 1.85:1
Thai DTS or Thai DD5.1
Removable English subtitles
Extras:
"OPEN THE EYE" - Access 'Behind the Scenes' during the feature

FYI the old Tartan release is anamorphic but only DD2.0 and (probably) has burnt in subs. The HK R3 has DTS but is non-anamorphic.

Some more updates:

Stray Dog - Will have Japanese DD1.0, Theatrical Trailer + Photo Gallery
Silmido - Will have Korean DD5.1 (no mention of DTS yet)

Update from Chris at Madman regarding Silmido:

DD5.1 only. Silmido will be a nice film-PAL transfer with 50 minutes of Extras (+ 2 sets of galleries).

This looks about the same as the HK DVD but it also has DTS, the extras are subtitled on that also. I'm guessing DTS was dropped to keep this on 1 disc.

According to CD WOW Ong Bak will have DTS:

Personally I don't believe it as I even asked Madman this and they said it will only have DD5.1 but CD WOW do seem to be sure.
