Heaven and Earth vs Natural Born Killers
I haven't seen the former but there's no way I'll like it more than NBK, not a fan of war films.

Heaven and Earth is also supposed to be rubbish. I love NBK. It's my favourite Stone movie, followed by Platoon.gasteropod wrote:I haven't seen the former but there's no way I'll like it more than NBK, not a fan of war films.

I like Alexander: Theatrical Cut. The Director's Cut messed around with the order of the plot way to much. I've not seen the Final Cut yet.

Not into to Stone. His films are messy or just bad IMO.

Natural Born Killers and Platoon are very good. Those are the only two I considers keepers. I dislike how many of his films he messes with the facts loads. I also like Stone interviews too. He's interesting to listen to.

But inconsistant. I found it hard to get through.
I feel he can stage a good scene but struggles to make a complete story.
Just 'IMO'

Re: The Oliver Stone World Cup
Stone used to be one of America's most important filmmakers.
Natural Born Killers was a total misfire IMO. The satire worked better in Quentin Tarantino's original script, which, despite the 'story by' credit, forms the first hour of the movie, before Stone added in his own weird native shit. The resultant film is an incoherent mess with an indescernable point-of-view. The violence comes off as nasty and exploitative because of Stone's mishandling of the material.

means nothing to me.
Steven Soderbergh is considered to be a big name Director these days. I couldn't care less about America's 'most important' if their output sucks.

Re: The Oliver Stone World Cup
1. Salvador vs Platoon
2. Born on the 4th of July vs JFK - I've seen both of these but such a long time ago I can barely remember them. I'd probably say Born on the Fourth of July but I cannot actually call it.
3. Natural Born Killers vs Nixon
As to Soderbergh, of the ones I've seen:
Sex, Lies, and Videotape - The first half has really hammed up dialogue and hasn't aged well but it gets much better by the end - 6 out of 10
Out of Sight - Pretty good but overrated. Jlo really isn't that good. 5 out of 10
The Limey - It should've been much better, the villians are so stereotypical. Terrance Stamp is good. 6.5 out of 10
Erin Brockovich - Very good. 8 out of 10
Traffic - Excellent. 9 out of 10
Ocean's Eleven - Dumb and even more overrated. 6 out of 10.
I really need to check out my Che blu-rays. Only Erin Brockovich and Traffic I'd classify as great movies.
