Seeing some Chinese cinema from the early days of film (1910s-1930s) would be pretty interesting

I have several from the 1930s on DVD like Street Angel, The Highway and The Goddess (several more I cannot remember). Some of them are good, if not a little derivative of Hollywood scripts. Some are quite important because of the actress like Ruan Ling-yu in Little Toys and The Goddess. The Mainland kept silent films into the mid 1930s so the camera movements are pretty nice (more like late 20's Hollywood before many sound films became static) and it is interesting to see the anti-Japanese movies even then. They can be a little didactic so that can be sometimes annoying.

Thanks :) Maybe there are some on Youtube.

I once read about a film series called Burning of the Red Lotus Temple (1928) - maybe thats what we'd call the first "martial arts" film? It was released in 18 feature length parts (!) between 1928-1931.
I thought they were now considered lost :?

There is definitely a few on youtube.

That film Burning of the Red Lotus Temple is lost (gone) like unfortunately the majority of Chinese silent film (well even American silent are missing a high percentage.) David Desser wrote in "The Kung Fu Craze" that there were about 250 sword fantasies from 1928 to 1931 (Shanghai.) Because of so much that is missing it is possible that there was one before it.

Here's David Bordwell on the topic (from Planet Hong Kong):
The eighteen-part serial Burning of the Red Lotus Monastery (1928–1931) was the prototype of the fantasy swordplay movie; already there were flying daggers, weightless leaps, and palm power, the ability to shoot bursts of energy from one’s hands (Fig. 8.2).9Many of the cinematic tricks that present superheroic feats were developed in this era, including wirework and double exposures. Heroine of the Wild River: Big Trouble at Deer Horn Gulch (1930) features fast-motion swordfights, a huge bird that carries off a little boy, animated silhouettes of eagles, and a woman warrior who tosses around gigantic barbells. Fearing that the martial-arts films would harm children, the Chinese government suppressed them, but when Shanghai directors emigrated to Hong Kong in the late 1930s they revived the genre.

Run Silent, Run Deep is the only one of the bunch I have seen (liked it). Stella Dallas I'm especially looking forward to. But always need to improve film noir knowledge so glad to have Road House.

I have already seen Mad Mad: Fury Road which I liked quite a lot.
I've been collecting the Disneynature films though I have not seen any yet :).
Catching Fire I saw in the theater so I wanted a combo copy.
Jobs just cost me a few dollars (and not just the film either; no I'm not an Apple fan). I have read the Walter Isaacson biography which I highly recommend.
Ronin is an upgrade. Already have seen it several time. Oh so fun film.
I've seen the first Purge but not the second.

This is just for Body Count (which is only for featuring Sonny Chiba). I would've preferred just Body Count, but it's OOP and the 4-pack was notably cheaper.

Image
Pre-order. Two more volumes to go after this

Image
Canadian edition. Less than $10 from Amazon.ca, though the shipping cost more than the BD.

Image
Pre-order. This is my 4th time purchasing the first two films, 3rd for the other two

Upgrade for Thor (already seen several times).
Upgrade for Aladdin (also seen several times).
Paddington seen, good film, though slightly underwhelmed.
I'm a Depp fan and Irish mob films so needed to get.
The Big Short was nominated for AA BP so that is a list I've been working on.
Bought American Ultra because friend wants to see it :).

Is it a bad dub translation-wise? Don't think I've ever seen it in English!

Dubtitled also? I know it's supposed to have hard of hearing subs only, but those are actually HoH dubtitles?

Bought The Raid 2 and Lady Vengeance on HK BR today. Lady Vengeance should be the full colour version I believe, as opposed to the fade to B&W UK version.

Iron Eagle III for, you guessed it, Sonny Chiba, and Video Nasties because I always wanted to see the documentary.

I'm a little behind on posting purchases.

Dakota, In Old California and The Plainsman I have seen, though I plan on rewatching The Plainsman soon. Dakota is surprisingly OOP and I watched it as soon as I got it. A bit weak even for a Republic feature though. Just did a count: I have seen over 63 films with John Wayne in it (not quite as high as my 89 film count with Jackie Chan.)

The Revenant will be the next one watched out of this bunch.
I got The Last Frontier mainly because of the director Anthony Mann who I'm a big fan of.
Keoma is purchased because I need to improve my Italian western watches.

I saw the last Hobbit in the theater and wanted to get around to the extended version. I saw the extended release to the first Hobbit which I'm glad I got.
Of course I saw Avengers Age of Ultron in the theater.
I have not seen Fantastic Four yet. I am curious which may be deleterious but I do like giving some films a chance.
Poohall Junkies is OOP, but it is a pretty good "pool" film. While not up there with The Hustler, the scenes with Christopher Walken are quite fun (check them out on youtube).
Yes I have a pretty big collection of Doris Day movies (as well as Sinatra.)

Ip Man 3 has been watched. So has Notorious Eight. Unfortunately it ended up being a bootleg. There are a couple of main type of bootlegs out there, most of them end up being Region Free. However this one did not have the menu so it has none of the extra features. It just had the movie/subtitle choices/mandarin/Cantonese tracks. Only one track was ripped (funny enough most of the other bootlegs I've seen of IVL have all the tracks so the menu is included :D.) Funny enough I saw Mark comment about Notorious Eight on an old post at KFF.

The best two Japanese rock films of all time, interestingly both are Roman Porno productions. Red Violation (1980) is a terrific docudrama about the real rock band The Devils. Easily one of the best band films ever made. Rolling on the Road (1981) is a jaw dropping sleaze epic about asshole rock star Yuya Uchida, played by Uchida himself, and very well directed by Tatsumi Kumashiro.

I've seen all but California Suite and Unconquered though 2010 has not been seen since VHS days.
Spotlight had won Academy's Best Picture award so I had to see it since I've seen all the other winners.
I'm a big Bob Hope fan so I saw these as soon as I got them. I'm also a W.C. Fields fan.

Oh Yeah:

The Freshman is an upgrade. Already have seen the film several times. Harold Lloyd is quite underrated in my opinion (I'm a huge Buster Keaton fan BTW as well.)
Repo Man is an upgrade. I have a previous edition that is a license plate box set.
Crumb is an upgrade, one of my favorite documentaries of all-time (up there with Hoop Dreams.)
Bottle Rocket I have seen, but first time buying. I've seen all of Wes Anderson's films.
Charade is an upgrade. Love that film.
The Sabu set is completely unseen, so I'm quite looking forward to those. He is in The Thief of Baghdad which is a great English film.
